Just wondering if I buy a RNS510 from other country or from ebay, how do I get the OZ maps to be installed? Anyone have bought RNS510 from ebay without maps?
Cheers

Moved to the Audio and Electronics section as this applies to many models.
You will have to buy the maps from VW. Do a search for estimates on pricing quoted by dealers and Skoda.
Tiguan TDI, 6spd Tiptronic Auto
Black, sunroof, comfort pack, off-road tech, tan leather, park assist & roof bars.
Avg 7.63L/100km over 189,000kms
you buy the maps from VW AU service. They are about $1300 for V2 maps
all you need is to borrow someones dvd to get it uploaded.
but the rns510 will need to be coded to the car (about 2 hours labor)
I don't think that's the 'official' line. The DVD comes with a single user license so installing it on another would breach the license.
Back of the DVD case: "The parallel use of the software, database and map data stored on this data carrier is authorised for one navigation system only."
Side point here, but when you buy an RNS510 new from VWA via a dealer (i.e. as original fitment in a car), you are also buying a license to the maps. Therefore they must provide you with the DVD - this is your proof of license to the installed maps.
Also the car can be coded to accept the RNS510 by anyone with VAGCOM, not just your dealer. If it takes 2 hours then they are seriously struggling with what is an exceptionally basic task...![]()
Probably explains the problem i'm having. I purchased my RNS510 from flea bay and installed it correctly. I decided to do the right thing and buy the v14 maps from VW parts (they didn't tell me they had v15 until after I bought v14 grrr). They are sure I received the correct DVD but the unit just does nothing when the disc is inserted. It dosn't error either.
Do I need to do something with the VAGCOM so the unit will accept the DVD?
Picked up my CC yesterday and asked where was the Navigation DVD. Dealer advised me that maps are preloaded and DVD does not come with the car. He said that the dealership has "only one DVD" which they use to upload/service vehicles.
Any advice as to whether this is correct or should I have been supplied with DVD would be appreciated. Manual is not quite clear as to whether DVD is supplied but it does mention that Nav system can be operated from the DVD.
As discussed earlier my CC delivered 6/11/2009 fitted with RNS510 arrived without a DVD. Asked the dealer and was told that there is only one DVD at the dealership and they load that into all cars. Seems at odds with the EULA but the dealer may have a DVD with different end user conditions.
Questioned dealer again after advising that other RNS510 2009 cars were delivered with DVD but received the same response.
Thought I would try Volkswagen Australia. First the Customer enquiry line. Asked them if the DVD should be supplied. Answer; "We don't sell cars here. You will have to ask the dealer" . Dead end 1.
Rang VW Australia head office direct and asked if Passat CC MY10 should have the DVD delivered at time of delivery. Wait for it. I was transferred through to roadside assistance. Perhaps they thought I was lost and could not find my way home.
Can't see myself getting much joy on this one. If the DVD sells at approx $1000, I am sure dealers must pay VWAG something for it. Might be a tidy little saving for the dealer if they are reusing the same DVD for each car sold and not supplying the DVD to the customer. Or maybe selling the DVD that maybe should come with each RNS510 through their spare parts divisions to the ebay RNS510 purchasers. Or am I just being paranoid.
Would be grateful if any others received the DVD with their new cars and OEM RNS510.
I could do without the DVD if the dealer was to offer me a free reinstall if required or free upgrades during scheduled servicing as they became available as long as that complied with the EULA conditions of the "dealer DVD".
Also won't read SDHC 32GB card although manual printed 04/09 says that it does. My car is 08/09 manufacture. Phoned service and told that they had never heard of 32GB cards being used in RNS510.
Once again the forums seem to know more than the dealers.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.
