looking for sub box builder that needs a challenge

so im looking around for a sub box and i come across a stealthboxz model in the uk.

but at nearly 200 pounds its a little exy!

is anyone able to reproduce something like this? in melbourne preferably but anywhere in oz could work

Most of these boxes are fibreglass moulded to the body at the rear of the box. The only problem with making one all out of MDF, including the rear is that you will most likely have to box out and around a few objects which will cost you internal litres. This only means that the box may have to sit out a bit further than the fibreglassed rear one would.

If you start looking up DIY boot installs for the mk4 you are bound to find someone that has made one all out of MDF. If you do, see if you can find some pictures of how they have constructed the box and post them up.

I am a cabinet maker by trade so i can do it, but the problem is making it to the correct dimensions and making it fit without having the car to work with and not knowing what is behind the box to start with.

Could probably make one yourself if your looking for something to do, read some tutorials on making fibreglass subwoofer boxes, really it doesnt look to be insanely hard. Would be hard to do without access to a mk4 though. If its going to be covered in carpet then all that really matters is that it is all properly sealed up

There's a very neat sub install in the rear of a Passat, by Marty at FHRX in Sydney
There was also a link here somewhere to a youtube vid of guys doing a fibreglass sub enclosure in a rear quarter panel

Not uncommon. There is a guy in Sydney who bangs these sort of designs out pretty cheap, as he focuses on popular makes and pumps out a number of units.

The biggest issue is making sure you have sufficient internal volume of these boxes whilst bracing it properly. No point getting something made up by someone who does not understand how the boxes need to be built.

As Cousin alluded too above; listed below are some of our enclosure designs for European cars. Felix da cat; if you’re in Victoria I’d recommend you pay a visit to either Phatt Audio or Frankston Car Audio as they’re generally considered the best in the southern states.

We sometimes build them into the wheel well too. The spare tires actually mounts onto the top of the enclosure:

You can even employ these side-mount enclosures when your subwoofer requires a titanic volume:

Like I say in the thread, I wouldn't have thought about giving it a bash before seeing it done, but it's relatively straight forward if you want to give it a go.
