Looking to replace RNS510 with Pioneer unit with Apple CarPlay

    Hi,

I have a Tiguan 2010 with a factory installed RNS510 with reverse camera, sensors and bluetooth unit.

I am looking to replace it with a Apple CarPlay unit, currently looking at the AVIC-F970DAB.

Why you may say? I find the RNS510 a pretty basic unit and even without CarPlay I would prefer to have a colour unit with better display of album art, DAB, and access to other apps such as Pandora. Not sure if it is possible to get live traffic updates in Aus?

I am hoping to be able to reuse the reverse camera, sensors and bluetooth unit in my new system. Also hoping to continue to be able to use the steering wheel controls for the new audio unit.

Has anyone else done anything like this?

Also can any recommend a good car audio installer in Sydney CBD or Homebush area?

    Many thanks,
    Johnno

Factory RVC is RGB-S, not composite video, so you'll need a converter.
Reverse sensors should integrate with a CANbus controller for the new headunit.
    Steering wheel controls ditto.
Can't use factory bluetooth. if the new head unit has a mic in port you can use the factory mic and splice it in, but most don't so you end up having to use the in-built mic on the unit which isn't as good.

I guess I'll lose Park Assist not that I use it much - probably 5 times tops.

Park assist should still work as it displays in the MFD. Doesn't need the head unit.
