Thanks for that. At this stage I haven't loaded any maps or music or anything at all on to the rns so maybe 2680 is the go. Trouble is I dont have vagcom. Are you suggesting if I load 2660 I won't need vagcom? I can't sem to find 2660 can you point me there please? I can only find 2680.

My part no is 1T0 035 680 B, which according to your site can be upgraded to 2660.

    Thanks

Just type in 2660 to either of the two search boxes and the fifth or so entry down the page is the firmware.

    thanks.

Just flattened my battery trying to copy a dual layer dvd of about 8gb of mp3's into the rns. I have a battery charger but where the hell is the battery?

    Edit

found it. Wow that thing is well hidden and locked up like fort knox!

You can charge it from the terminals under the bonnet.

If the battery has gone flat it could be on it's way out and you have to make sure it's a sound battery before running the firmware update.

Interesting thing happened when i reconnected my battery. The volume controls on the steering wheel work now. Still no mfd integration but this really is not a problem.

I am concerned about something hopefully you can help me out here Maverick. Even when the car and gps are both completely turned off I can still hear a whirring noise coming from inside the gps unit. Surley this is not right, it must be draining the battery.

Hopefully it will start when i leave work today.

The RNS unit remains partially powered after the car is turned off for I think up to 30 minutes? Go back to the car in half an hour and see if it is still whirring (I assume that will be a fan running that you can hear, or possibly the hard drive spinning)

Just had a quick look and after car has been switched off for 2 hours, rns is still making a whirring noise. Is this normal?

I have another small issue with the rns-510. I followed Mavericks guide on loading mp3's on to the hdd. I made 2 blank dvd's with "Music" as the root folder on both. When i try to copy the Music folder from the 2nd disc it says it will delete the other music folder if I continue because they have the same name. So I had to put it inside the other "Music" folder. Does anyone know how to get around this?

I ended up with a directory strucutre on the hdd like this:

    Music/folder1
    /folder2
    /folder3
    /folder4
    /folder5
    /Music/folder1
    /Music/folder2
    etc
