Well the USB stick doesn't have any buttons on it to do that

Just like using a SD card or HDD or MP3 files on CD/DVD

Yes you can. Just can't change folders from the steering wheel controls which is only really a minor niggle.

I'm new to this forum and to current vehicle technology, so excuse the beginner question. (I've read heaps here about this but still not sure if people are talking about the same thing). I'm about to take delivery of my Golf 2012 118. In the centre console as standard is a cable with a proprietary connector. The dealer wants to sell me an ipod adapter cable for it for $100.

What exactly are these cables called so I can buy one on ebay (instead of paying the dealer $100)? Is it just a "VW MDI ipod cable"? I can see the ipod connector on one end but not sure it's the right connection on the other end. All the items advertised state they are to plug in to the head and don't mention this centre console cable.

    TIA

I haven't bought a cable but I have just bought a Golf with one I had problems getting audio out of my iPod and researched on this. Yes it is a VW mdi iPod cable. Some eBay sellers also advertise the model and year of VW too just so that you can be sure. Around $20 seems reasonable.
