    iPhone extension cable for MDI?

    Hi all,

Just installed a MDI kit that includes and iPhone cable. Problem i have is that the iPhone cable supplied is only 30cm-ish.
I think it's designed so you keep the phone in the glove box. I want to install the MDI module under the driver seat and run the cable so it comes out of the console compartment somewhere.
I tried this extension cable but it doesn't work. It charges the iPhone but no data signal to the head unit.

Has anyone successfully used an iPhone extension cable of any sort to the MDI?

    thanks

Pretty sure neither of those will give you any joy mate, I have seen mdi iPod extension cables on eBay uk before, but can not find them now. The mdi uses different wiring to the standard iPod lead unfortunately.
Use an old iPod or USB in the glove box, that is what I have done.

Get one of these, connects between the MDI box and MDI adapter (USB/iPOD, etc)

maybe i need to get an extension cable that passes 'data, power and auido'.
The one that i brought only passes 'data and power'.
I'll purchase one tomorrow just to test my theory.

I don't like the idea of VW extension cable because it's just not pretty. This seems to be a full proof option if nothing else works.

Can you post up what you bought, and whether it worked? After one myself...

I have one of those VW cables and most of it is hidden under my seat. The connector pops out next to/behind where you connect your seatbelt next to the center console. Personally I don't even notice it, and I have the beige leather interior, so it should stand out even more.

    update:

Ok my new cable extension came in the mail today. Good news is that it works
You must need a cable that is Audio, Power and Data capable.

Here is the link if anyone is interested.
