    Installation Problems with RCD510

    Hi

    My question is this:-

Replacing my RCD310 with a RCD510 bought from Ebay (good trader) from Aussie. All installed by an authorised dealer and and looking good but the CD app will not work. When moving to the CD load screen it just thinks about it and then returns to the load list of available CD's. Also the Unit seems to constantly hunt for the Cd's it does not have, even with the ignition off.

The radio also cuts out seemingly randomly and "Cd Error" is frequently displayed. The deactivation of the "Transport mode" seems to do nothing to help.

Returned the unit to Aussie where it apparently again works fine in the donor car (Golf)??

The unit looks to be the latest with the different buttons i.e. no TIM and has the RVC video feed (even though mine is not fitted with that option)

Any suggestions, my car is almost brand new, are we doing something wrong?

Such a shame as the unit looks much better than the daft blue back-lighting of the 310 which does not fit with the now standard white lighting for the instruments

    Jules

I would have presumed a straight swap would be fine coming from an RCD310. Have you had the installer run a vagcom to make sure no error codes were shown?

Sounds like the CD mechanism is stuffed to me ....... but if you trust the seller then perhaps there might be a programming option that needs to be set to tell the car that it's a 6 stack instead of 1 CD. but really, I think it's the CD itself. Another option might be to pull the unit out of the car and power it up on the bench with just power on it and see whether you get the same errors. Also just in case you've been using copied CD's, try original ones as some CD players have trouble with copied disks.

Thanks for the reply, have asked for the return of the unit back to NZ, clearly the trader is giving me no choice anyways. I can only assume they are being honest, they have tried it successfully in three different models apparently, they have good feedback from other traders.

My understanding is that this is more or less a straight swap out but maybe the dealer is doing something wrong. I do not believe there is any VAG Com recoding required? It certainly was odd that even when you open the car door with no key in the ignition, the unit started "hunting" for CD's.

Certainly looked and felt genuine like an undamaged unit.

On the CD front, it does not get that far, you cannot insert the CD as the "Bar" does not come down to allow you to insert anything. At no point do I get the "Load or Eject CD" message.

It's definitely stuffed then. All the unit needs is power and it should load the CD's ok. I have powered mine up on the bench with just DC power on it and it loads the CD's in without any trouble. Same also goes for loading the Map Nav DVD.

By; the unit was installed by authorized dealer. Do you mean VW dealer? And what do they say is most likely the fault?

Yes, an authorised VW dealer (Tristram on North Shore NZ).

Took it back for them to have another look after the install, as they had not noticed the CD player was not working. They had no other suggestion other than "it is not working".

Not sure what to do now as EBAY user in Aus declares it working and here they said it is not. Ebay user does not want to return my money although they have both the unit and money at the moment although have asked for the return of the unit.

Links here to show the video of it not working:-

The details sent by the seller to indicate video of it working are just fragments of random unrelated pictures, not a video at all, difficult to know what to do?

If it's within their time limits, maybe your next move could be to open a dispute with Ebay or PayPal?

I did that once for a computer related item that turned out to be fake.

Took a while, but I eventually got my money back.

I watched your videos. I am an IT Engineer and IMHO, it is stuffed. Ebay/Paypal dispute time before you blow your time limit to lodge a claim............especially if the seller now has both your money and the unit. The "only" other thing that you could do is a full power reset by dropping all the power to the unit which ofcourse is done when you unplug/plug the unit back in. From looking at the video, it could be a mechanical issue with the CD loading tray mechanics jamming as it moves through the stacker. But all that aside, it is within the unit itself. "If" the seller is telling the truth and it is working, it could have been "jolted" in transport and has now unjammed but either wy, you are entitled to a working unit or your cash ........

Yes I agreee with above. This is not a coding issues and is a fault with the unit.Good luck
open a dispute immediately if it is still within the time limits. You have proof of a non working unit (reference back to this thread and your videos)and postal reciepts to say you sent the unit back so you will be covered. You will get your money back as paypal can penalise the seller and his account even if you still have the unit. It happened to me. I have RNS510 and a 90% refund at the same time.
