How to perform a RNS510 Firmware Downgrade

Every day there appears to be someone who attempts to do a FW upgrade (despite all the warnings) and then needs help to revert back!

Short of sounding like a broken record and having to find it all the time, here's a brand new thread with the link to the high level instructions:
    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tml#post686065

Whoever is the moderator on this sub-forum, can you please consider making this a sticky!

    High level instructions reproduced:

Need to enable test/secret menu first: http://www.my-gti.com/1200/

If you haven't got VCDS, then apparently this custom recovery disk contains the code to enable it:
    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f78/...tml#post684071

Just download the file and burn to disk and install onto RNS510. Once installed, go to this thread: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f78/...enu-59346.html for link to YouTube on how to access the menu.

But basically hold the "setup" button for a good 15 sec for it to pop up. Enabling "SW downgrade" is within the very last menu option (once you're in the secret menu).

Only after you have enabled the SW downgrade on the screen ... will the RNS510 install a disk with a lower FW version on it.

Does a downgrade from 2760 to 1100 remove data including maps?

If upgrading from 1100 to 2760 does, then downgrading will also! That's my guess!

    Hi Aussietig,

I am downgrade from 3810 to 2760 and have enabled the SW Downgrade, however when I insert the 2760 CD I got the following message

SWL CD detected but invalid clamp state - Please remove CD and either:

    A) Change the clamp state to Hour Mode and re-install the CD or
    B) Press any of the menu buttons to use system

Took me a minute or too to realise that I had inserted my key in the ignition !!

Might be a good tip to add to your downgrade blog for new comers

    Thanks,

Don't know what clamp state is let alone how to change this to Hour Mode !!

    Any idea's ???

    Thanks,

By no means am I an expert!

My guess ... you tried to do the downgrade whilst ignition was on or something like that!

Make sure you do not insert key in ignition at all. Just turn on the unit and insert disk.

Nevertheless, reboot the unit by pressing the three buttons and retry the install.

If still doesn't work, then maybe the way you've burnt the disk is not correct.

    Thanks,

Well you've just added it! So thanks!

But I don't normally know how to resolve ID10T fault codes.

It was just a lucky guess on this occasion!
