    Headunit installation - Mk5 Golf

Hi all just got myself a MK5 GTI and wondering if anyone here has experience in or can provide some info on installing a new headunit.
I'm looking at the Alpine iLX-007E because of it's apple carplay integration.
Just wondering if anyone knows how it goes with the steering wheel controls, canbus battery drain problems and where to get a fascia surround for it?

    Thanks in advance!

I did this for both my Jettas

    From nexxiamail.co.uk
    2 x CT24VW03 - Volkswagen Radio Fascia Adapter Jetta Passat Polo Touran - 7.91 each, 15.82 total
    2 x CTSVW002.2 - CTSVW002.2 Volkswagen Steering Control Adapter Canbus - 33.29 each, 66.58 total
    2 x CTSONYLEAD - Connects2 Sony Patch Lead - 3.29 each, 6.58 total
    1 x PPX - Postage & Packing - 21.95 each, 21.95 total
    Net Amount: 110.93 GBP

On install I realised I also needed an ISO to Sony specific plug
    Supercheapauto
HARNESS ISO TO SONY APP8SP4 - Supercheap Auto

That should be a good start, adjust for Alpine / Pioneer etc

That all works perfectly no cutting anything.

Have you looked at maybe buying an RCD 330 instead?

Thanks JustCruisn. Guess that connects2 brang stuff u mentioned is the way to go.
Yes Shanrus I have looked at the oem options but am figuring that an aftermarket unit like the alpine will sound and operate better. Correct me if I'm wrong. Plus will also be cheaper not having to purchase a bluetooth module.

From all accounts the RCD330 is a brilliant piece of kit, well worth the upgrade.

Yep, heavily leaning towards the rcd330 option now. Been doing some more reading and looks like it will integrate nicely.
Anyone know where to get a canbus gateway recoded in sydney? That seems to be the only issue standing in the way.

You can pick up a canbus gateway or emulator off ebay - probably easier/cheaper?

Anyone know if a rcd330 would work in a R36 with Dynaudio?

Not the same way as an rns or rcd can switch to line level balanced output.
You'd have to use a line out converter as rcd330 is speaker level unbalanced output only.

I think there's a way to get a line level signal without a converter, but it involves some soldering to the back of the unit, giving you (i believe) FL/FR/RL/RR channels . You'd still have to find a way to splice that signal into the Dynaudio harness, but i spose the 330+ features set might be attractive enough to warrant such an install
