Question GTI interface to ELM 327 OBD II Bluetooth dongle and Android Torque Pro

I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I have a 2012 GTI. I purchased the ELM 327 OBD II Bluetooth dongle - VW Volkswagen Bluetooth OBD2 OBDII OBD-2 Scanner Interface Torque Android MT#B | eBay . I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. I've download the Torque Pro app.

I've plugged the dongle into the car (it shows a red light when the car is running). I've paired the dongle to the phone and is shown as 'OBD II'. When I start up Torque, it does not recognise the dongle at all.

Does anyone else have this sort of setup, and if so... what am I doing wrong?

i remember i had problems with connecting it as well. my solution: i didnt have to pair it to the phone (i have an S2) first. paired it through Torque. when i tried pairing the OBD to the phone it would just disconnect. I could be wrong but it just worked after a while so i left it as is. i tried every possible combination/variation possible.

You have to set up the profile for your car in the app itself. Just follow the instructions, that you should see on the screen when you start up the app.

Did that. The funny thing is that taking the car for a drive today, none of the dials on Torque worked, except for one. Power, and that was sporadic . I have a feeling that the App may have a problem reading the ecu info from my car. Anyways, I've just been reading about the ANS-810 replacement for the RNS-510, and that looks like it may be able to read OBD info. Luckily, I have a bog standard GTI (with no satnav), so this could solve 2 problems.
