Pretty sure this issue can be overcome with a firmware upgrade, try Mavericks site for more info http://www.my-gti.com/category/in-ca...-entertainment
Hi all, i had Chatswood classic cars install my eBay Spesh RNS510 today. Works great EXCEPT the steering volume controls could not be coded! Has anyone else had this problem? VW said "it can be done as i have an older model Golf." Is this true or are they just lazy?
I have a MKV MY2007 R32 and was wondering if anyone on here has the same model (or even earlier) with the latest RNS510 installed and working 100%?
I also have a new, current CANBUS for sale if anyone is interested. It turns out i didnt need it after all as my car was not subject to the dreaded battery drain problem.
Cheers

Is this not just an issue with the installer not having their hands on a Vag-Com ? Sounds like they haven't programmed the appropriate settings to recognise the unit.
As I said in my earlier post a firmware upgrade should rectify the issue. My son has an '05 GTI and had exactly the same issue, he also has Vagcom and no amount of setting changes would fix it. He then applied a firmware upgrade and this cured the problem. Some dealers are hopeless as well and wouldn't even bother to try and sort it for you but if they say it can't be done then the need for a firmware upgrade is probably your answer.

Gday Hoffie,
Am having the same issue currently in my MKV MY09 GTi, the issue is actually to do with the last bit on VCDS. Bit 7, from what has been explained to me, the BAP protocol has to be switched off for all MKV Veedub's. Also been speaking to an avid forum member who has was explaining that sometimes the RNS needs to have a couple of resets done after the VAG-COM coding to apply the changes and synch with MFD.
Anyway he is a nice write up on the RNS retrofit with the VCDS coding required.

I am going back to George at VWVillage to get it rechecked again because i think mine was left turned on.
Cheers.

Hey,
anyone been able to fix this problem??. Just installed a RNS 510, and have the same issue.
Cheers
I believe you actually have to downgrade the firmware to get it to towkr and then you can update to teh newer firmware after that.
