I don’t use the maps stuff, but has anyone tried this to get it in the AID? (I have a golf mk7.5)

    Dashboard_Display_Configuration:
    ability_switch_nav_maps:
    Off

it may just be a different map for the car as I’m guessing using maps from your phone just displays the phone screen and audio

Does this mean the upgrades (google maps) will work on current MY18 Tiguans or do we need to pay to upgrade?

How does the updates work? Does an update need to be made to the car or just the iPhone?

Assuming you have Google maps installed on your iPhone, when ios12 becomes available, you just have to upgrade phone software at no cost. I understand that there will be more CarPlay apps available too. Waze being one of them also.

    How's Waze in Australia?

Waze (and even Google Maps) would be a great alternative via CarPlay to get realtime traffic information.

Shame it can't be displayed on the active display.

Yay, I miss TomTom Go. I hope they update the app for CarPlay.
Photorealistic lane guidance and motorway exits are awesome.

Waze is pretty good. I prefer Google Maps. Keep in mind Google own Waze now.

The better Waze features are the Police and Light warnings, Speeding warnings...

I don't have experience with Apple but on Android it will run in the background and alert you of "issues" on the road ahead even if you are using the in-car nav and/or playing music.

I've been considering an upgrade to a CarPlay unit for a while and this announcement (while not yet implemented) has been enough to tip me over the edge to pull the trigger on one.

While the RCD330+ was the obvious choice (and a little cheaper) I've opted for a Pioneer AVH-Z3100DAB which is a step down in the model range from the current Pioneer AVIC F20BT... except it's 8 years newer (and I rarely use the Pioneer NAV since I prefer Waze anyway). The real draw of this unit was the inclusion of digital radio. It should turn up soon and I'll post up a review once I get it installed.
