Thumbs up Golf R head unit upgrade

    Hi guys,

I'm almost the owner of a 2010 MY11 Golf R (hopefully pick it up on the weekend).

It has all the specs I'm after, bar GPS/bluetooth. I think its just got the basic MY11 head unit.

Would this be called an RCD 510? Or an RNS 510?

And does anyone have any experience in upgrading to the full blown latest bluetooth/GPS head unit? I'd love to get this installed..

    Cheers Love the site..

    Welcome to the forums.

The base head unit in the MK6 Golf R is the RCD510.
The RNS510 has Sat Nav (GPS) and a built in HDD to store MP3s.
Bluetooth is a separate independant function and option which can be connected to either the RCD510 or RNS510.

As per the MK6 Golf forum index thread, info on the Audio and electronics is in a separate subforum which I've moved your thread to. This is cause the headunits and bluetooth modules are shared between the models. You can find all the info you're after in other existing threads in this subforum. Cheers

    Congrats and welcome!

My R came with no GPS or bluetooth so I upgraded to the eBay dig_options unit. Costs $540 and has iGo navigation, bluetooth, iPod cable, reversing cam etc all included. They key thing is that it integrates with the factory parking sensors, climate control, steering wheel controls and MFD.

There are also more expensive options ($1000+) such as the Opal and Zenec ZE-NC2010. Over $2000 you can also look at the Pioneer AVIC-F9310BT. Here's a good thread to read up on:
