Getting rSAP working with Windows Mobile

I don't know whether this will move the matter of Windows Mobile remote SIM Access Profile phones further, but for what it's worth I will make the following observations. I have a Golf VI with the Premium Bluetooth.
Much has been written on many fora about the poor application of the Nokia based VW Premium Bluetooth phone. The consensus is that they work with most Nokia phones with rSAP, but few others.
The usual complaint is that users can pair the WM phones successfully, but that almost as soon as the pairing is completed the systems throws up a message that the VW unit is "initialising phone", followed by a loss of BT connection. The unit then gets into the cycle of connecting then disconnecting which will go on for hours if you let it.
I have several Windows mobile phones, including the Touch HD and Touch Diamond (both WM6.1 factory ROMs) running on Telstra Next G. I was lucky enough, as have been some others, that the Touch HD paired almost at first go and has worked perfectly for about eight months. I had phone book transfer and all. However, the Touch Diamond never worked.
One workaround raised on the XDA Developers site was to make sure that data connections were turned off before pairing. This however made no difference for me with the Diamond. Another workaround was to cancel the connection from the phone (from the SIM access tab) as soon as it paired, then re-initiate connection from the car. This seemed to break the "connect/disconnect" cycle and did work occasionally for the Diamond. However, you had to do it every time you got into the car, which added 5 minutes at the start of every journey, and even then was only successful about one in three tries.
All the while the Touch HD continued to work flawlessly. However, a few months ago the Golf went to the panel beaters for a week and of course they disconnected the battery. The result was...the Touch HD now stopped working...totally. After a week of frustration, I bought a prepaid Nokia 6120 and of course it worked first time.
The last month I have continued to try to get my WM phones working as I love big touch screen phones. Last Friday I had success. I had read that some SIM cards seemed to work better, so I bought a prepaid Vodafone SIM. Bingo, the Touch HD and the Diamond both worked with the Vodafone SIM. I then went to my local Telstra shop and told them my Next G SIM (about 3 years old) had been damaged and they replaced it with a new one (standard 128k memory). Low and behold, both the Touch Diamond and the Touch HD are both working with the VW BT.
I cannot guarantee that this will work for everyone of course, but it has for me. It may be worth a try if you can't get your WM phone working with the VW Premium BT unit.
