If not, then you may need to go into the can gateway and tick that you have the rns, or look at other gateway options.
There are certainly options for the radio/ navigation module in vcds for steering buttons, maybe you need to check all the vcds navigation options again.
Yes, MFD displays it all. phone, radio etc just like pre update. All steering wheel buttons work including radio channel change . The only one that has stopped is volume down/up.

Unfortunately I do not have a vcds cable and might need to get one but as I don't have any experience I might break something else

Its not likely that the battery went flat due to the old canbus issue. You should have a canbus gateway module which is not affected by that issue.

You may have another problem. That's not to say the headunit cant have drained the battery but you will need to do some testing to determine what the cause is.

You can test the draw across the battery terminals with a multimeter while car is off and radio on and then lock the car and wait 45 mins and test the draw again, listening to the headunit to hear if the fan has shut down. Even better would be to test the draw across the fuse for the headunit circuit in the fusebox.
The rns should shut down and draw next to nothing. In standby the fan still runs for 30mins.

As for the volume buttons not working I would load the proper firmware again (the battery drain fix CD swaps some tables over and forces them to load) and get a fellow forum member to validate the coding of your canbus gateway and rns.

    Thanks,

If this is the case the only thing I can think of is the upgrade itself actually drained the battery, will have to run an update again taking the risk of draining the battery. but will have to get a multimeter first to test.

Any South Eastern Suburbs VCDS owners that can have a quick look, I can also meet at another location . maybe its a quick fix ? I need to go to the dealer anyways and might have them have a quick look but don't think they will be very happy I upgraded the system.

Hi Guys, I have a specific problem with my RNS-510 which I will try to give as much detail about in order to get some answers. I have looked for days through the internet, all to no avail...

I have a factory installed RNS510 (1T0 035 680 A). I transferred approximately 6GB of music when I first got the car via an SD card with no problems at all (other then it being extremely slow).

After a while I decided I wanted to upgrade the maps and at the same time decided to do the firmware.

I ended up upgrading the unit to Firmware Version 2660 and V5 maps, all again with no problems. Everything worked fine, although I did find it very weird that none of my songs were deleted...

The problem that has only now arisen is that i can no longer transfer/copy songs from an SD card or a CD. The SD card is in the correct Fat32 format and i am trasnferring songs in MP3 format. The songs all play fine when they are inserted in the slot, although when i hit "copy" the little "copying" message comes up for about half a second and then disappears and nothing is transfer onto the harddrive. I have tried transferring whole folders and single songs but nothing will work. I ahve also tried burning MP3's to a CD and transferring them this way, but this still did not work.

Any ideas? Should i delete everything off the harddrive and try from scratch? should i re-install the firmware?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

6 GB of music.. I am not sure but have read somewhere there are file name limits on the hard disk that don't exist on other media. have you tried deleting some files and see if the copy comes available ? you might have reached some limit.

As you are using older 2660 firmware which is the first ver that supports 32gb external memory you still have limitations to the number of folders and file name length, I think maximum files (2000) etc , I don't knowif newer firmwares remove these limits

I have about 16gig on my HDD and have 5.37 on a SD card which i can add to HDD if I want to as the copy seems to want to work.
I have latest firmware. All of my songs are individual tracks in one file You can only copy to the HDD off an SD card NEVER off a CD or DVD

    Just a quick update,

Used a Clamp Multimeter to test the Drain before and after the 4120 update and is was the same or even better, using less power on idle.
Old firmware shutdown took 15 seconds and on new 4120 firmware it takes 30 seconds which is perfectly ok as giving the fan more time to stop.

I can only conclude the drain was not caused by the update itself and possibly a battery issue not able to keep the charge, As the Car is new I will request the Dealer to check it next week.

FYI, All gateway functions are back to normal and Volume Control working again.

    Thanks for the help
