Definitely a good step up to try first and see how it goes.
At this stage, you'd only miss out on radio text which is contained in the higher FW.
Hello all,
I have been reading up on firmware and map upgrades and not sure if I've got it all correct.
The RNS-510 version I have is 1T0 035 680 B, HW: H11 and SW: 1200 (from the sticker on top of the unit itself).
Would it be correct in saying that upgrading to firmware 3970 and v5.0 maps as linked here would be unlikely to be problematic or require recoding? Would there be another firmware/maps version that would be more suitable?
Thanks!

3950 should be fine, beyond that I'd be more cautious since you have a B unit.
If you have VCDS then save a backup of coding for the sake of it.
Thanks for the replies.
No VCDS, so I'll probably have to wing it and hope for the best!
Hi all,
Would really appreciate help in upgrading RNS510 from FW3970 to 4210 (including GPS maps V5).
I have a few added options to my car; park assist 2, optical parking sensors, auto drive/driver assist, climate control, bluetooth audio streaming and bluetooth mobile.
I understand the steps involved but would appreciate if someone with VCDS (HEX CAN cable) in Hills District, Blacktown, Pennant Hills area could help with this?
Thanks a lot, in advance!
There's a special 'VCDS' forum where you can ask for help; more likely to get a response.

Has anyone noticed with the new firmware (that gives radio text) that radio reception is sometimes not as good (i.e. you get some static as well while listening)?
no not on mine. its the same.
maybe your booster has died? assuming they have a booster.
First of all many thanks to kamold and aussletig for all their hard work on making this happen!!
Completed firmware upgrade yesterday and all is good..... also added POIs. Everything works including VIM.
The only difference is there is still the female voice for navigations...any clues how to change this to the male voice?
