Hi guys
Thanks to the awesome instructions I was able to update my RNS510 successfully - VIM and everything working fine.
My my only major problem is it appears that the Navigation DVD that came with my car is of such poor condition that when I insert it into the unit to reload my maps, it does not recognise the DVD at all. Tried to to burn a nice clean copy hoping that my laptop would have better luck, but no avail.
This may be the wrong place to be discussing stairs particular issues, but what are my options to get my navigation back? Can I download the DVD! or grab a copy off someone in Adelaide? If all else fails, I might be able to drop into the local VW dealer and see if they have one I can borrow?
Thanks Hillbilly - apologies for not finding this myself - this thread goes all over the place!
Hmmm - still the same problem....
I have burned the DVD at 1x (apparently successfully). I start up the RNS510 and select MAP or NAV, and it requests the Navigation DVD. When I insert it - it thinks for a couple of second, and then requests the Navigation DVD again, this time with an audible voice request as well. There is an "OK" button with the message that you can click, but the system seems to sit doing nothing after that.....?
Is it worth burning another copy of the Nav DVD? I'm hoping I haven't upgraded the firmware incorrectly and buggered the SatNav!
If the firmware update finished correctly you haven't WHat map version is in it because it wont load a second copy of what you have .
Eg got V5 need V6 Got V6 you don't need anything You can downgrade to V5 and then go back up to V6 but I found I couldn't reload the same version a second time.
Tried when I was comparing the streets shown in the two versions. Otherwise go and see "Transporter" forum moderator who is in Adelaide

After you insert the map DVD you should just hear it spinning, and the map should slowly load up the map picture of your location (because it is reading from slow DVD).
In the background it will start copying the map data to HDD.
If you hit the eject button you will get a warning message and also progress bar for the load.

Cheers for the advice. I can confirm that my burned DVD must have been no good because I went and caught up with a mate for lunch who worked at Solitaire (local dealership) and grabbed the V6 maps off him to upload. His DVD worked a treat in comparison to my burned one - all copied over in about 5 minutes and working perfectly.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions - I was getting a bit worried for a second there!
