Gents - Forgive my lack of investigating this firmware upgrade. I have the RNS510 Columbus in my 11' Skoda superb. Will this firmware upgrade allow me to play other video files (mp4, avi etc) other than iso. I can only view?
Hillbilly/ Kamold/ FJ Steve, Thanks for the input. I drove around a bit this morning and eh voila! The fully functional mapping appeared on the screen.
I bought the car with v.3 maps ( not long before v.4 came out of course), and have updated every new version. It says something about either my ailing memory as to why I didn't recognise what was going on, or that it's that long between VW map updates I can be forgiven for not remembering the procedures. Or maybe a little of both.
Anyhow, thanks guys. I do truly always appreciate the help.

No. You're 2 main options for videos are to (1) author your own DVD each time, or (2) install a Red/White/Yellow AV cable to RNS adaptor (connects to the back of the unit where a reversing camera normally would) - you'll find them on eBay. Of course then there's option (3) which is to install a new non-OEM head unit.
Thanks ryan - Yeah I though so just bought this 1231 Dietz VW RNS 510 Video OUT Interface 0630 | eBay to instal on my rear dvd headrests so all monitors see the same
Yep, it's just worth pulling out your RNS/Columbus and double-checking that it has the reversing camera plug before buying. There were some RCD510 (non sat-nav) variants that didn't, for example.
All Rns510/Columbus units have 26pin multimedia connectors.

So in order to install a RVC I was given a usb with 4020 firmware and V7 maps to burn on to CDs and load onto my RNS510.( I was told I had old firmware that wouldn't support an RVC and V5 maps.
The firmware loaded ok but my maps didn't. I got that clamp state message and reset my clock to 24 hour mode and it did seem to install ok.
But at the end when I tried to hit the map button it told me to insert map dvd, which I did and it came up with the clamp state message again.
I checked the set up and I've got no maps at all.
What have I done wrong? Is there a problem with my V7 map disc?
Not following instructions correctly Have your engine off when doing it Just unlock car and turn the RNS on ( as per post 1) Had same trouble till I worked out what was causing it Forgot since last time
After they have installed go for a drive to let them sort the locality out

So it seems somehow, embarrassingly, that I burned the 4020 firmware to both CDs! Doh! I have now burned the V7 maps to a CD-R. The RNS510 tells me to insert a DVD and comes up with an error when I load my CD-R. So should I burn the V7 to a blank DVD? I'll give that ago and see how I go....
