aussietig dArK5HaD0w.. thanks guys. Yeah I'm aware personal POIs need to be loaded via SD card.. was asking if anyone else had the option greyed out. It has a check box that's ticked(selected) but its greyed out. VCDS is still needed as I had no joy with the FW upgrade changing my DVD region coding.. Can't play DVDs so I can't check VIM:(
Guess I'll just have to be a little more patient.. no VCDS cable
Btw thanks for the link to the POIs and for the POIs
Depending on how many POIs you loaded, it can take a while to fully register.
But you should not take like half a day.
If still greyed out ... then suggest delete the POIs and start again.
Also make sure you double check the instructions.
Yep ... Will need cable to change region code.
The upgrade to 4020 went like clockwork and took just 43 minutes. Reinstalling GPS Map V5 took only 10 minutes. Reinstalling music took 90 mins. All works perfectly and I have also installed the Personal POIs; and yes, the PersonalPOI option was greyed out untill I uploaded them from a SD card.
Thanks you guys, your advice and instructions are first class!
Thanks for confiming that for me lowery.. just what I'd asked. I'll now go ahead and install them, as I didn't want to waste my time if it wasn't going to function for me.
Happy to donate kamold.. useable and so very easy to follow. Thanks again.
Given that I updated my firmware to 4020 (EU version) unnecessarily most probably with the HDD partitions set at 75/20/5(although I dont know how to check this) and given that I came from a Rev B unit with 1120 firmware orignally. Is it now possible for me to upgrade to the OZ firmware with 90/5/5% HDD partitions using the 5 part johnc download on the first page of this thread ? Would I need to downgrade first?
Interesting point: I started with fw 1120 and upgraded incrementally to 2760, 3810 and then 4020. After each upgrade it said that the software had not loaded properly (error screen with red bar) and i needed to use the software recovery disc to get the unit to boot.
My only concern is that im worried about the power drain issue as the pwr drain fix iso did not load properly either.
Great thread by the way!
PS: It doesnt seem to work any quicker when booting up or starting nav first time but it certainly works quicker when enetering new destinations and calculating routes!
PPS: What size SD card can I use with this firmware 4xxx?
My unit Info:
Was:
B Version
Map v 7492
Version info
Delivery part no. 1T0 035 680B
Hw version H04
Sw version 1120
SV SW-VERSION C_EU_7.112_t1010
Now is:
D Version
Map v 7679
Version info
Delivery part no. 1T0 035 680D
Hw version H04
Sw version 4020
SV SW-VERSION C_EU_10.354_t1

Sorry another question, Will the RNS-510 read lossless audio files? Eg WMA lossless? Will it read wav's if they are tranferred as data from a DVD or SD card?
Cheers.
Yes, you should use the first image from this thread and do a downgrade. To enable downgrade you need to enter the 'hidden' menu by holding down the setup button for 20 seconds.
Then go to system and enable downgrade.
Then load up the custom 38xx firmware which has modifications that prevent battery drain issues in older units, has VIM enabled, and maximises space for music.
Also the fact that you say that the previous firmware loads have not completed is concerning. If it happens again, take a pic of the error screen or write it down. Its possible that some componments are not being upgraded and if there is a mismatch in versions you could have unpredictable behaviour.
You can use up to 32GB SDHC cards in your unit.
I've never tested it but I'm fairly sure WMA lossless is not supported. Compressed MP3 and WMA, or uncompressed WAV only. One way to find out...
Thanks I will give this a go next and post any error screens (mioght be a couple of days b4 I get to it).
I have tried to get the rns-510 to play .wav files in data form from a dvd or sd card but it just ignores them as tho they dont exist. I made a blank dvd with 2 folders one with some songs in mp3 format and the other with some songs in wav format. The rns showed the folders on the disc but when i went into the wav folder it was empty.
There must be a way to fool it into playing these files!
Cheers
