Faulty Speaker - Covered by Warranty?

    Hi guys,

My drivers door speaker became distorted and crackly. This was never an issue so the speaker itself needs replacing. I have installed a subwoofer with an amplifier but the door speakers are still connected directly to the headunit and and not amplified in anyway by the aftermarket amplifier. The amp receives its input signal from the rear speakers so in no way is it related to the speaker in question.

I took my car for a service to a volkswagen dealer and at the same time got them to look at the speaker to have it replaced. When I went to pick it up, they said no good and that they're not replacing it because I have modified the system. It's interesting, because if anything, I have reduced the bass levels from the headunit as the subwoofer now compensates for that.

can anyone offer some suggestions and/or their thoughts on this declined warranty fix?

    cheers.

Had a problem years ago like this and the answer was How do we know that you didnt overload them by running them at high volume. Or perhaps inadvertently shorting it when doing your mods. Unlikely I know but mistakes can happen.

Buy a new pair Only about $50- $80 Hardly worth the time to argue with them about it

It was a pain dealing with the first dealer I took it to so I wrote a complaint to Volkswagen customer service who assisted me with taking it to another dealer in Melbourne.

I dropped the car off this morning at 7.30am and said they will look at it. I got a call at 9.00am confirming the speaker is faulty and they are ordering one in to replace it under warranty. Surprisingly it was a painless process this time and their customer service has been fantastic (even washing my car for me).

Very good outcome in the end in my opinion
