    Faulty Cable?

Recently took delivery of a '12 155 Tiguan with the RNS-510.

In prepartion for the delivery I had ordered an iPod MDI cable off eBay. Looked like the real deal, but guess I'll never know.

When I plug the cable into the iphone 4 it charges the phone, but does not register on the main unit. If you go to the media button, the MDI is not coming up as a source.

Was thinking that is perhaps a faulty cable, but then why would the charging work?

Or am I missing something? Do I need to enable something?

    Thanks.

    Toby

Before use it may need to be enabled (with VCDS?) so the head unit knows it's there. The charging is probably just an electrical connection.

I don't have a VCDS, and I don't really want to get involved in having to make those sorts of changes.

Will try some different ipods I have and see if those work. Otherwise could always pop into the dealer.

Did the car come factory fitted with the Nav and MDI. If so you shouldn't need to do anything with VCDS as it should just work. Maybe try and plug a USB stick into the original cable and see if that works. If so it's most likely the iPod cable that is causing the issue.

Maybe also worth asking the dealer nicely for an OEM iPod cable.

Seems as though it is in fact my iPhone 4 that doesn't work properly with the cable. I tried a very old gen 3 nano just now and that registers with the MDI.

Think it's something to do with the dock connector on the phone. As this just reminded me I had issue with it not registering on my bedside clock/dock.

Maybe a thorough clean will do the trick.

    +1 to the clean.

We have a MDI in the Polo. When connecting the iPod 160GB , sometimes (and it is a rare occasion) it doesn't recognize the device. I just unplug it and re-connect.
