I was wondering if any one out there has experienced this fault on a Mk4 or similiar:

00849 - S-contact at Ignition/Starter Switch (D)
25-00 - Unknown Switch Condition

1. I have googled and checked RossTech wiki..

2. I have checked fuses 37 and 42 (as per some other forum suggestions)

basic symptom, when I switch the car off and remove the key, I noticed my doors wouldnt unlock, the interior light does not activate and the radio does not switch off..

All suggestions point to the ignition switch and possible meltdown in the wires. Thankfully I can live with the inconvenience so before I go pulling the trim apart, I wonder if anyone can shed more light on the situation.
