Electronics Whizz Kid Apply Within - Need to Transfer Serial to Analog Signal

Weird title i know, thanks for having a look...

For anyone who knows what they are talking about it will quickly become apparent that i don't.

Basically i am trying to hook up a DB Innovate AFR gauge to an OT-2 Innovate Wifi Unit. Firstly can someone put me out of my misery if there is no chance in hell that this is possible.

Secondly i hope the info below my confirm if its do-able and what i need to do it.

Thirdly if someone can just fix it for me i'll pay them cold hard cash!

Reason i want to do this is so i can hook up my OT-2 unit to the Audi 8P S3 and hook up a DB gauge I already have spare. I like the gauge as its red like the audi lighting and the bezel matches a spare Podi boost gauge I have an will wire up in an OSIR pod, all shown below.









I know i can buy a MTX-1 or XD-16 gauge that will be plug and play but i don't like the look of the gauge so its the last resort.

As far as i know i need to change the serial output from the OT-2 to an analog 5v input for the DB gauge.

Innovate Serial Protocol 2 (ISP2) specification (preliminary)

1. Serial Interface Settings
The LM-1 serial interface is set to
8 data bits 1 stop bit no parity 19.2 kBaud.

Personally I would be looking for an existing "black box" to convert your serial data in OT-2 to your analog signal that the DB gauge is looking for... but I'd seriously doubt such a device exists as it's such a unique thing to do.

I'd be talking to the guys at innovate as they're the ones that run the OT-2 protocol and the gauge and if anyone has something to do it they would.

If you're a masochist and want to go back to first principles it's going to require a fair few bits of electronics to pick the rights bits out of the words and reconstruct the digital data, then convert those digital words you've extracted back into an analog signal. Nice little project for some 4th year engineering student if you can find one.

Thanks mate, pretty mush as I suspected, already searched for a 'black box' but couldn't find anything that appeared suitable (all appeared to be for audio signals).

Unless there are any willing students out there it looks like I'll be buying an mxl-1. I will also try innovate but I'm not holding my breath.

Next question, do you know if its possible to open the gauge unit and swap the amber digital display for a red one or is that another can of worms...

Unless you can find one from the same manufacturer with identical pinout I think you're heading down the same path
