Hey guys sorry about the lack of attention on the forums, it's getting more and more difficult to find time with work and imminent wedding coming up at the end of next month and things still aren't sorted. I don't know if I should laugh or cry about the fact that I ended up announcing both my engagement last June and my wedding in this group buy...
I just received the new CAN-Bus unit today, after going round in circles a few times with AS. It turned out it wasn't fully ready as they initially told me it was. Having said that the only issue so far is that once in a while the unit gets stuck booting and needs a reboot. Otherwise, boot speed is now much faster and MFD shows song title rather than time elapsed. Nevertheless on my older Golf 5 red MFD I am still just seeing one line of info. I need to check if the CAN-Bus has a newer update or if the 3 line display plus radio browsing through MFD is for the newer MFD only.
The silent boot function (when you unlock the car) has not been implemented but judging by the boot speed of the unit with the new CAN-Bus decoder I don't think it is even necessary.
I'll need to use the unit a little longer to confirm that there are no other issues, and also test both Sygic 13 and Sygic Drive on the new unit to figure out which one to choose for the system. We've been having some issues with skewed map rendering on Sygic 13 so at this stage it looks like it would be Sygic Drive.
I did delve deeper into the iGo issue. I got a task manager running and it appears the navigation takes up 100% of the CPU load when the 3D map is moving. If you are using simulated nav, you will find that when you change songs nothing will happen but the second you pause the simulated navigation and the map stops moving, the song will change. I'm certain it's not an inherent iGo fault considering how popular iGo is, but unfortunately it just seems that iGo and DNS's CPU simply do not like each other.
Bear with me for another week or two, believe me I want this whole thing to be wrapped up before my wedding.
