Fiona from Audiosources sent me this video from S600:

It's worth keeping in mind that the s600 is technically lower specs than the DNS (single core CPU, 256mb of ram, external CANBUS decoder, no oem inputs (radio, USB, GPS etc)). It does have an MFi chip tho (so iphone/iPod is via USB, so you can use a lightning USB cable natively), compared to how the DNS is set up.

That being said, it's frustrating that the DNS UI isn't as smooth and fast as that. Maybe the dual core CPU is still the issue. I wonder if they could port that OS over to the DNS skin?

The power doesn't matter here, because if S600 works like old units (7609), the CPU is just used by Windows CE6 (GPS), not by everything else.

Eventually, what do you think are the real advantages of DNS810? I like all "stock" functionalities, but I think they are not useful. Or not S600 killer.

Yea I agree. The DNS has the oem style GUI, oem plugs and internal CANBUS (cleaner, but more difficult to upgrade). Other than that, it's all well and good, but a bit pointless if the thing doesn't actually work.

I'm still skeptical about the whole CPU only works on one side, thing. I'm not sure that that's what's actually happening. But yea, dunno.

The S600... if that is the "new" line... it is the same as what Eonon has been selling for over a year. Arm11/256/WinCE6.
I'm really considering the GM5153 just because it's $300, does more than the S600... and seems to be better performing all around than the constantly consumer QA'd DNS series. If it ****s the bed on me in 2+ years... it was still worth not constantly trying out "updates".

So I loaded up Garmin Mobile XT and it works fine with no lag on SD/iPod etc when navigating. Unfortunately its pretty old (the way you search for a route is awful, it just lists out every city/street etc and then you have to click spell to bring up a keyboard), and its pretty laggy/slow/juttery while actually navigating. Apparently that's just the way the program is, because its so old haha. It does have updated (2014) maps though, since it uses the same Garmin maps as every other garmin device, so thats nice at least.

If only Sygic had updated maps

I am seriously pissed off with this piece of ****!
I was sitting at a drive thru and decide to tune in some radio stations.
I pretty much only listen to triple j which is 102.1 in Newcastle.
So I only had 6 stations saved, from 102.1 to 107.7.
I go to 107.7 and press the tune arrow in the top right of the screen.
It starts searching and get to around 68 and stops, no sound or station but then continues searching.
I than think **** this and press the saved 102.1 tab and it does nothing, just keeps searching.
Did this about 3 times until it finally (well I thought) selects 102.1.
Only to realise it's playing 105.3(newfm) but showing 102.1.
So I hit the 102.1 tab again and it changes from 105.3 to 102.9(kofm) but is still showing 102.1.
I then try to reboot it and it takes about 15 seconds to shut down.
When I restart all the stations are out by .2 when you select them.
So 105.3 is showing 105.28 and so on.
I think it's time to throw the old MFD2 back in and get a refund.

Interesting, which model do you have as I have not had any issues with radio, tuning or otherwise and have changed all the stations in Melbourne and Sydney when I went there.
    Mine: -MK5 Golf 2.0TDI[Deiselgeek sigma 6 shifter + H&R 50mm lowering springs + GTI Tartan interior + Audi 18x8 A6 wheels(Dark Steel)]
    -MK1 Golf The re-spray/re-build
In the family: -MK5 Jetta 2.0TDI, -9N3 Polo TDI, -6R Polo TDI, -Mitsubishi S^$&box van
A pattern seems to be forming...

    I have the 610.
I had the dropping .2 problem with the "pre production" 810 I received also.
It's pretty sad when your driving to Sydney and need the Satnav to get around only to have it freeze while
listening to the radio in back ground, having to stop the car, pop the bonnet and pull a fuse to get it to re boot.
I think I will pull it out on the weekend and send it back.
    I'm over it!

Can you plase share the files you are using to run Garmin Xt on your device? Since all the versions i have tried so far, will not let you minimize it and then get back to it.

    Thanks!!

As above, never had any radio issues with mine, even in preproduction form, even driving around country NSW or QLD, except for the RDS-causing-everything-to-die issue.

I feel like its the 610 more than anything, most of the issues voiced seem to be from those with 610s.

I honestly don't know what the alternatives are, assuming that Audiosources can't get their act together and fix the damn CPU thing. You've got the other chinese units like the Eonon and Audiosources S600, but they lack OEM integration and UI is still a bit potato. There is also the new Dynavin N6, which looks nice, might be a bit $$$ and not sure how well OEM integrated it is (ie MFD/AC controls etc). There are all the pure android units (theres one that is basically a DNS810 with Android 4.2.2 on it). UI looks pretty ****ty on those, honestly. There is the new 2014 Zenec unit, but they're silly expensive. There are '2nd party' units from Alpine/Kenwood, with the 2din dash kit and Idatalink, which gives you all the OEM integration, but looks obviously 3rd party, and are really expensive too (you're looking more than $2k+). If you're spending that much, you may as well just get the RNS510 and forget the whole damn thing.

It's frustrating because the DNS810 would be freaking perfect, if Audiosources could pinpoint the freaking CPU bug (ie upgrade it to WinCE7.0 or Android).

    Ugh.
