See, the thing with a lot of the android ones is that they're basically a generic, chinese android tablet thrown ontop of the generic chinese WinCE headunits. So a lot of the software is pretty cheesy looking/laggy, and frankly a lot of the android stuff is unnecessary. Don't really need a web browser in my headunit when I have a smartphone and a tablet that do it better.

Whatever works for you, though. I guess the nice thing about android (rooted) is that its customizable.

Either way the whole DNS thing has been ridiculous.

If you don't want to wait, just go and get a cheap Eonon or Android unit and know what you're getting (cheap, generic, chinese), or just go and spend the money and get an RNS510 and be done with it.

Not when you get a pure android unit, no wince garbage in there at all. That's what you have to look for, pure android. Anyhow that's off topic.

Nah I mean its basically just the generic chinese unit hardware with a generic, stock android os tablet software running on top. At least, thats what the videos look like to me. Would be about the same performance as a generic chinese android tablet, i'm guessing? Either way doesnt seem like the android headunit software looks very nice, looks a bit cheesy.

I feel like, in hindsight, it would have been a lot less fussing about if I just spent a bit more money and got the RNS510. Oh wells.

Still have hopes that Audiosources comes through, but only because I have a $700orwhatever investment in it :p

    But yea, off topic, sorry!

Any that makes the DNS any different how? All it is is Chinese hardware running modified & buggy dated wince software lol.

Anyhow yes, no more mentioning of android stuff, of anyone is interested just Google it, lots on there.

If you would like a refund I can organise that - however as I told you many times before, you had a faulty unit that had many unusual issues. I also said many times that you needed a replacement, and that firmware updates will not fix your unit.

The idea of DNS is to have custom software designed specifically with VW in mind. I'm sure these days there are plenty of smooth Android units out there but most of them are just on stock android with a couple of (often sloppily designed) apps layered on top for radio / USB / CD etc.

Obviously the DNS units didn't quite turn out as planned and a lot of that is to do with the CPU that they have chosen. Most of their effort recently has gone to working on performance improvements with the CPU factory. But this kind of deeper level enhancements are finicky and takes time - a lot longer than it should have by now yes, but I do want to be very clear with this situation. I don't know when AS will push out a proper stable release - that's not to say there's no end in sight, it's just indefinite. It could happen next week, it could happen next month. I understand this is not to everyone's liking, but again if this is not okay with you, you can get out of the group buy and get a refund at any time.

As of now the only two issues I can confirm is SD / USB song changing when navigation is in motion in the foreground, and the occasional monsun.exe error that crashes the unit. This is not counting the small things like typos in the UI.

I now have newer firmware that is supposed to be a lot more stable with regard to the monsun.exe error. However I have encountered an issue while flashing, and have now been told that there is a new firmware flashing procedure - the MCU MUST BE THE FIRST THING TO BE UPDATED. This is very important. I will update the spreadsheet in relation to the instructions as well. This doesn't mean your unit will have an issue if you don't flash the MCU first but you could get unlucky. So flash the MCU first - even if you have the most current version already.

Among other things the latest firmware seems to have fixed the mute on reverse issue, and has switched the main setup menu back to 2 columns per row.

OEM UI and OEM connectors. Personally I hate the software that runs on the chinese units, even the Android ones, they look like crap.

Thanks for the update Sandy We can only hope that the CPU issue is fixed sooner rather than later, better for everyone involved.

Flashed fine for me with the new method.

Reverse issue is finally fixed, yay! Actually makes SD playback useful for me.

Also fixed a number of typos around the place, and yea, the main menu is back to 2 columns.

if you have a 610 like I do, I suggest you do not update.
Updated as per new instructions and after it's done and you reboot
it gets to the Welcome to Volkswagen screen and that's it!
    Can't do **** with it!
