    Hey,

So I just bought an 07 Golf GTI MY07, and I'm pretty sure I'd like to replace the RCD500 on it with a DNS-610, or similar - it appears to be the latest version of the RNS-510 alternatives.

I have a couple of questions regarding these things:

    1. Do I need an additional bluetooth module in order to get it linked up to the steering wheel etc? I'd like full functionality (bluetooth audio through all speakers, etc), so it seems like I might, but I was wondering if there are any units like the DNS-610 that just do it out of the box since they're already connected to the CAN bus anyway. It seems Audiosources does android head units now - maybe they have BT built in?

    2. In relation to #1, I have checked under the drivers and passengers side seats, and there is what appears to be a computer of some sort under the passenger seat and nothing under the drivers side seat. I take this to mean there is no BT at all...so I have no idea where to start there. There is a phone button on the steering wheel, however.

    3. I'm fairly sure I'll need to upgrade the CAN bus to avoid battery drain issues given it's an MY07 - I can probably do this myself, right?

    4. Is the DNS-610 currently free of issues? I really don't want to be messing around with it at all, so if it's going to be problematic I'd probably just stick with an RNS-510. That said, it does look *much* better in terms of performance etc.

    Any help is appreciated!

I have a 2007 EOS which is very similar to the 2007 GTI. I had the MFD2 installed from new but I have now installed the DNS-810 installed with RVC in the VW logo. The blue tooth is in the DNS-810. All the buttons on the wheel work however the MFD display does not show everything - but more than enough. The DNS-810 was an extremely easy install and I did not have to change the CANBUS. I do not have any battery drain issues as long as I lock the car when not in use. All the speakers work and the Sat Nav is light years ahead of my old MFD2.

The RVC was not so easy an install - probably due to EOS wiring requirements. The Golf should be much easier.

It fits into the dash easily.

Thanks for that - I actually just bought one of these. It has android, and BT is built in so it should be pretty cool. The support guy Tommy was really responsive, and from my googling he posts on vwvortex quite a lot, and updates the software regularly. I think that's worth the bit extra IMO, and they're american so you don't need to do a group buy from Alibaba.

    Hi all
I'm interested in buying this device for my '07 passat. Can you say about sound quality of this sound system, and will it work perfectly with my car? I had installed can-bus gateway from '12 passat B7 and climate electronic module from B7 too, will visualization work with my car? And can anyone tell me about mirror link box? I want to buy it too.
    thanks a lot!

To all the new people coming into this thread, to be completely, brutally honest, the DNS series of headunits is still in a state of half baked, unfinished 'meh'.

While 95% of it's functionality is fine, and works, there are still a few bugs here and there (no show stoppers), the amount of time it took to get to this point is ridiculous, and AS still haven't delivered on 2/3rds of what they promised originally. Everything works as it should, for me (FM radio, iPod connectivity, GPS navigation etc etc), is fairly fast for a WinCE unit, and OEM integration is pretty good (though MFD functionality is ****). I don't think it was worth the $700 or whatever that I paid for it way back when... if it was more like $400-500, that is a much better price and would have no issues recommending it. I still have and use mine, but I wouldn't really recommend it to others for how much I paid, though I don't think i'll be replacing it any time soon (until Android Auto/Apple Carplay units start coming out that are actually decent). Can't imagine there are going to be many more headunits running WinCE going into the future, most stuff will probably end up being Android.

Also, for what it's worth I much prefer Sygic to iGo, in my mind Sygic is much slicker and has better UIX and navigation. The difficulty is that Sygic aren't supporting it any more (there are no currently supported WinCE navigation applications on the market), so maps might be updated into the future. iGo is just easier to get access to (free) maps and is modder friendly, which is why it's more popular. From a UIX and navigation standpoint, personally, I think it's a piece of crap.

    1) No. All aftermarket headunits have their own inbuilt BT modules. AFAIK the only one that allows you to use the OEM VW one is Zenec.
    3) Yes.
    4) No.

    1) From memory I think that was a firmware bug (??).
    2) BT microphones on the vast majority of headunits are **** anyways, DNS is no exception.
    3) MFD functionality on the DNS is ****. Wouldn't expect it to get fixed.
    4) Don't expect that to get fixed either.

The sound quality of the DNS will be on par with the vast majority of other headunits, to be honest. Mirrorlink box is as far as i'm aware mostly non-existent.
