Well actually I've bricked one. The only way I know of is to cut the power during a BSP flash. Mine froze on the BSP flash screen after the stage where it erases the Nand ready for the flash, except it never got there. Just sat there for half an hour. Eventually had to turn it off and voila... Instant door stop...
Dude, really? I had that exaccccttttt thing happen to me haha and mine was fine. Actually, I can't remember what part of it it stalled at, the part just before the creating MBR stage, it just stalled, and sat there for 20 mins not doing anything. I rebooted it, re initiated the flash and it worked fine.
But since he only flashed the MCU, which is just the software, it should be fine?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but its:
BSP (Coloured writing on black screen) = Base Level WinCE Install
MCU (prompt on insert card) = Unit Software Layer
MPU (White screen) = Drivers
Or something, right?
Edit: The only other sure fire way to brick it is if you put the car into reverse while flashing. Not sure if that still applies for the DNS, but I remember reading in the ANS thread.
Or if you try to flash DNS firmware onto a unit that actually isn't a DNS :p

Nope. Sandy replaced the whole unit for me.
You have to see the coloured text screen come up first so if you didn't have that you should be OK. Do you have another SD card you can try? I grabbed a 4gb one to use for flashing. They cost nothing and you can keep it in the car in case you ever need to do a quick reflash while you're out and about.
Yea, but I think his problem is that the unit won't even boot. Flashing the MCU, or MPU, or BSP, individually, should work fine without flashing all three at the same time.
So either the flash went wrong somehow, or the units just being stupid, I dunno.
Trying to force a BSP/MPU flash would probably be a good thing anyways.

I explained what each of them are in my post above:
BSP (Coloured writing on black screen) = Base Level WinCE Install
MCU (prompt on insert card) = Unit Software Layer
MPU (White screen) = Drivers
(If that's correct, can't remember exactly).
So what you did, if you just did the first flash on inserting the card into the booted unit, was just flash the MCU, which is the software layer (ie all the stuff you see ontop), you shouldn't have damaged anything critical (BSP/MPU).
If you leave the card in while booting the unit, that will initiate the BSP/MPU flash.

Did you format the card before copying everything onto it (making sure to do the UPD first) or just delete all the files then copy?
Also make sure you format it to FAT32.
