Before you do anything else, check that the external circuitry is intact — could be an intermittent/loose connector somewhere.
Sorry if this has been done to death. My Infotainment Unit of my 2016 Golf r is playing up. The Maps go into a spontaneous shuffle from streets to world maps. The Radio Stations can't be scrolled and locks on one page. The Car data flickers through different aspects and generally locks up.
Ive called the dealer who were quick to point out that because its an intermittent problem and only happens now and then the chances are a diagnostic run won't be much value. Anyone shed a light on some possible fixes. TIA

7 Iron:Certainly good to follow Idle's suggestion.
Not because there is any specific link with the symptoms that you describe, but just because it's an easy thing to do - try resetting the MIB unit.
With the MIB turned-on, press and keep holding-down the ON/OFF knob until the unit turns-off and then turns-on again (at least 10 seconds)
Again because it's an easy try, you could also reset the car to "factory settings" via the MENU -like this:
- Press the Car button on the RHS of the discover/composition media head.
- Press Set-up on the bottom RHS of the screen
- In the Vehicle Setting screen, press the Factory Settings panel (it's at the very end of the list at the bottom of the screen)
- In the Factory Settings screen, under Reset individual settings/data, press Vehicle
- Press Reset tab in the window that says Reset "Vehicle" settings-are you sure?

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
If it helps, my 2016 R was subject of a recall (got a grey sticker in the door jamb for it) at its service 2 weeks ago.
Apparently, it was specifically related to the car's software and infotainment, of which I had a number of issues.
They told me that the things I listed were all covered by the recall (parkpilot not working, DCC not activating, AppConnect not working or taking ages to connect, volume controls going wrong/not working).
Check with your dealer as they told me it was an active campaign.
