VCDS Scan after putting the 3C0 Gateway back in:

Interestingly the Immobiliser still has a fault reading, but I assume this is because I didn't clear the faults before re-running the scan.

    Code:

Yes you will need to clear the fault for immobilizer and see if it comes back.

For the OPS display, you will need to put the 7N0 gateway back in and then check the following adaptation channels in 5F infotainment:

    ENG122229-ENG117742-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-SWA_0x1A - change to "activated"

    ENG122229-ENG117743-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-SWA_0x1A_msg_bus - change to "Terminal 15"

    ENG122228-ENG117685-Car_Function_List_CAN_Gen2-PDC_audio_lowering - change to "Available"

    ENG122228-ENG117686-Car_Function_List_CAN_Gen2-PDC_audio_lowering_msg_bus - change to "Terminal 15"

    ENG122227-ENG117496-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc - change to "Activated"

    ENG122227-ENG117499-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_standstill - change to "Activated"

I have a hunch my OPS display issue might be an adaptation question...

According to this, there's an adaptation setting for OPS at ID 313, but that looks like it's MFD display; as well as some other Park Assist settings at 641 and 642 which I'm guessing might need to be enabled.

Looks like it might be a swap back to the 7N0 CAN and give it a go...

BTW - if anyone is interested, there's some half decent info on the MIB2 units here - almost a user manual, but not quite.

Ha! thank Kamold - looks like we were both onto the same thing - except yours looks like some comprehensive answers, whereas I'm just stabbing around in the dark.

    I'll give these a go

Because I really didn't want to go through the whole process of my dash apart and swapping the gateways over, I thought I might see if I can still access the head unit through the 3C0 gateway...

Surprise, surprise, while I couldn't select it from the installed list, or add it to the gateway, I could access the 5F address directly, do the adaptions and any long coding (although there was none of that to do).

The unit appeared to accept all adaptions (restarted everything, checked the values, and the adaptions reported the appropriate changes), although still no parking display...

Now I'm confused - is it possible these adaptations didn't really go through (because of the wrong gateway). If they didn't then why did the changes persist after restarting the car and VCDS?

Of course if I got my parking display up, I would have been pretty chuffed by the whole result. Sadly not the case.

Kamold - what are your thoughts? I'm leaning towards something else being missing - I'm convinced these adaptations went through via the old gateway.

Try coding the first 2 bytes of your 5F infotainment:
    Current: 0284
    New: 0274

    Dang. No luck...

I have a theory, which I'll try out on the weekend.

While I still have the old gateway connected, the steering wheel, MFD and reverse switch (volume lowering works) are all talking to the headunit, even though it's technically on an unknown address: 5F. I figure this is because they did their handshake with the new gateway installed, and now know how to talk to each other.

OPS on the other hand, was not set up with the right adaptation in the head unit with the new gateway, so never did the initial handshake, and therefore can't communicate.

Solution - swap the new gateway back in, perform the handshake, then swap it back out. Voila.

Ok, it's just a theory, but it's the only one making sense to me right now.

The new head unit is responding to the CAN commands on the infotainment bus same as an older unit at address 56 would. It can see a signal for mute, reverse, volume up etc.
There is no handshake as such in CAN. Just messages on a series of buses which connect and are filtered via the CANbus gateway.

I've never actually actually done any work with a Composition Media unit. I am only making assumptions based on what works in Discover Media.

2 ideas: It may be that the PDC messages are not being passed by the 3c8 gateway correctly - this is easily confirmed by testing with the 7N0 gateway in place.
Failing that it may be that you need a 1k8 PDC module like the Composition Media unit is supposed to see in a factory configuration like in an MY16 Jetta or Tiguan...

No luck with the 7N0 Gateway and original PDC, so it looks like I might need to upgrade to the 1k8 PDC. Hopefully this also works with the 3C8 Gateway - I'd rather give up the OPS display than have to do everything else that required with the 7N0 Gateway.

Interestingly, I can't find anywhere that specifically says you need the newer PDC for OPS to work (unless, as mentioned in this thread, it's to enable the camera overlay). Even the stores selling retrofit kits mention nothing about OPS.

I had a chat to a friend about this and this seems to be the sitation:

3C8 (and also 3AA) PDC modules with Discover/Composition media only show OPS IF you also have a RVC. This is just some sort of compatibility oddity.
I had a 3c8 module with rvc and discover. Since upgraded it to 1k8 and then PLA 2.0

1K8 PDC module will allow you to have only OPS or RVC image with OPS overlay.

I know 1k8 works with just OPS as MY16 Jetta has this combination from factory.
1k8 PDC module requires a 3 connector to 2 connector adapter harness.
