I can see you've upgraded to the B7 steering wheel, whereas I'm assuming those of us with an original 8 button, will have some issues.

I purchased this adapter (part BD-ITQAC17820) to get all my buttons working on an RCD330 - would it be as simple as using the same adapter to get them working with Composition/Discovery Media?
Discover and composition media work perfectly fine with the older wheels.
No adapter required like with rcd330.

Thanks Kamold - you've been an absolute superstar with all my questions!

That is not what I expected - I thought an 8 button wheel would be a no-go immediately!

If I'm not wrong, won't a Discover/Composition Media retrofit will still need an adapter harness like this to go from the older style pin assignment to new assignment for a MIB2 unit? I couldn't in your breakdown (only a new harness for the camera).

Did you have a different solution?

Yes there is a quadlock adapter harness required.

You can retrofit an MQB MIB2 unit.
Will also need a new screen (you can use either the 6.5 in or upgrade to 8 inch if you get the surround trim and vents also)

Great write-up Kamold - I followed it to the letter for my Composition Media install, and it all works a charm.

Except I can't seem to figure out the following:

    1. Parking distance works, but I'm not getting an image on the screen, just the beeps when I'm near an object. Anything that looks like the right coding to enable it does nothing - have I missed something?
    2. I have the dreaded "Steering column lock! Visit workshop!" warning on the MFD (and the steering wheel will not lock when parked), due to the 7N0 Gateway being incompatible steering lock - do I need to upgrade the steering lock, or is there a different solution?

    Any ideas?

For ops image on the screen you need to update to a newer park assist module.
Mentioned in my writeup I think? 1k8 module. It needs a wiring harness adapter as the pinout changed.
You can use a golf 7 module and reflash it with Passat CC firmware and parameter set.

Steering column lock error needs a wiring change in the steering column wiring loom.
Need to check my notes and get the details.
Bit of a pain you need to kind of lie upside down in the footwell but not too bad. Just need to bridge 2 wires from memory.

Yeah, you did mention it - I thought this might have been just for the overlay on the camera image, which I don't have.

I saw you did this in your Kamold's R36 thread, but doesn't this also involve an update to the CCM, or can you just bridge the wiring? Some other posts also indicate a CCM update is required.

Alternatively, now that the unit has been coded to the car with the new Gateway - what do you think would happen if I swapped it back to the 3C0 Gateway? Would it still work?

Sorry I'd forgotten about the ELV as I'd already upgraded my CCM previously.
Yes you need to clone your immo data to a new B7 CCM and modify the wiring to resolve it fully.
If you put the 3c0 gateway back in you won't be able to access the composition media unit via diagnostics, however if you leave radio at address 56 enabled, I think you should still be able to control the volume etc from the steering wheel...one way to find out...

Can you post a full autoscan so that I can see the full parts list and coding then I can look at the PDC issue.

Thanks Kamold - I should send you some beers!

Swapping back the old gateway was definitely the way to go. ELV issue gone, and surprisingly communication with the MFD is still as good as it was with the 7N0 gateway, and better than it was with the RCD510 - I can see what's playing, skip tracks, and see who's calling. Win!

Still no parking display - my guess is I still need the newer park assist module to communicate with the head unit, but in reality, I'm just guessing.

I've removed a bunch of thing from the scan like ABS and Door Electrics to fit in the character limit, as I figure they'll make no difference

VCDS scan with the 7N0 Gateway:
