Digital radio

Digital Radio broadcasting was launched today.

I have read on My-GTI.com that some of the OEM headunits can be retrofitted with a DAB module to pick up digital radio.

Anyone know or care to offer any details?

was asked the other day at work about digital radio and if i knew what its all about...
have to admit i know little about it... done some research etc... searched on here and elsewhere on the net

now this is purely my 2c.... but have we gone too far??? will it become yet another distraction from the purpose of driving a car?
maybe i have missed the point.

How so? Because there's going to be something more to read on a screen? I guess the rebuttal to that would be that RDS currently sends data to the screen anyway, and it's not the primary intention of the technology. The primary intention of digital radio is to provide consistent and high quality audio over the air, much the same was as digital TV aims to provide consistent and high quality audio and video. It's is presumably also achieving more efficient use of frequencies so that they can be used for something else, or reduce interference by not using them.

It will be interesting to see what the uptake is like. The radios available at the moment are pretty limited and seem quite dear. I'm sure that'll change though.

i reckon it will be great once this takes off properly...

i have waited for this to come out as im looking to buy a home AV receiver with this function so i can record podcasts etc etc (cant seem to find the tracks in stores or online!)

as with anything, it will take a while for prices to drop down a bit...
