Just spent the morning interrogating the Webisphere on the "Autodab" in case that is the way this is heading ...

rather elegant solution that... except it looks like it FM modulates, at least is looks like it interrups the antenna wire and injects the signal straight in to the FM antenna... I guess the question is do you run discreet left right into the aux circuit and fly blind, or use RSDS functionality to transmit track data and allow for interaction and feedback.... I expect injecting a strong clean FM signal off a good DAC is going to clobber a dirty, lossy, over the air FM transmission.

I was hoping for the native RCD510 behaviour (in europe) where a DAB signal loss has the unit flicking back to FM (if co-transmitted)...

Or to be honest, I was hoping Motive was going down something like this path

    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...0-a-67058.html

with integrated everything including DigiTV (an including garmin nav for us low class RCD types) but that would be wishfull thinking

Back to the real world... the Autodab style device is better than no dab, and at least is clean looking as long as the antena solution is discreet. I'll def be interested at the right price point.

    what next?... what next?

    Digital Radio is here

    ...I'm still looking into it

Not enough tech info or installation instructions for me to take the plunge just yet. Will PM Motiv asking for more info.

Also did a quick YouTube search and came up with this, but I have no idea if it's the same product we're looking at:

    Dear ALL

We have finished our testing of the DAB+ product in VW vehicles just recently.

The product does not operate in the same manner as what the video suggests above. For that type of integration the radio itself has a built-in DAB+ receiver, including the necessary antenna connection in the vehicle. The Radio above is an RNS315.

In Australia our VW vehicles are not specified with this type of radio nor antenna connection, so the only solution is to add an aftermarket piece. MotivAuto is offering the Media DAB+ to connect and pick up DAB+ audio stations in Australia. These stations vary based on the location of the vehicle (meaning, in some cities its more stations). For a complete station guide please visit, Digital Radio Plus: HOME

Now, our system, Media DAB+ receives the digital signal via DAB+ antenna mounted discretely in the vehicle (internally or externally) and modulates it to the OEM head unit installed in the vehicle. The control of the system is via the steering wheel controls of the vehicle.

The main features of the Media DAB+ for VW are:
    - User menu displayed on the car radio display by RDS
    - Vocal synthesis of the main information and menu headings
    - Interface control through CAN BUS steering wheel commands (self learning)
    - CD Quality FM stereo modulation with 8 selectable frequencies
    - RDS data and information on the OE Radio display
    - USB input for upgrading SW
    - Plug'n'Play connections to the vehicle via Quadlock harness
    - Double or single fakra connection to new DAB+ antenna

Currently we are working on the specific installation manual for VW. But essentially you use the Volume Up/Down to access the system and "Previous" and "Next" buttons to access the various stations. Its all verbal in the car, so when you turn the system on it speaks to you, "Welcome to Media DAB" and from there it works flawlessly.

Together with a paper installation manual we are working on a installation video (install a Golf VI GTI) including mounting of the antenna.

We hope to have this product ready for launch mid-April 2012.

If you wish to know more or even see a kit working please let me know as we are Melbourne based and can demo our GTI with the Media DAB+ installed.

    Thanks

That's a good news. Approximately, how much it will cost?

Would like to see photos/video of product in action - RNS510 + MFI interface
You seem to stress that control is via the s. wheel. This is a good thing, but are you implying that you can't control it directly via the HU?
    Not terribly keen on voice-communication/synthesis.

Keep us posted on the demo GTI too. I'd like to get this product, but only if it doesn't make the interface feel 'cheaper' (in want of a better word).

I've been informed that we might see a video before the end of May regarding this. Looking forward to seeing it in action and potentially installing a new toy.

was suggested in another thread I post the below here,

    "
I have used the pure highway
Highway - In-car Digital Radio with FM Transmitter.

there is a more upto date model out now, in the highway 300Di
Highway 300Di - In-Car Digital Radio and Audio Adapter with Full iPod/iPhone/iPad/USB Control.

what is even better if want a completely out of the way solution is I would think a device such as this,
Mobile Electronics AU | Articles | DAB+ Solution from Stinger Australia
now being sold in australia by stinger australia,

and they sell a kit for vw range,
    AutoDAB - Range
VW OEM AutoDAB Car Digital Radio Tuner DAB Add on Adaptor | eBay
    "

it looks like some discussion of the autodab in this thread already. I think probably most exciting dab+ solution yet. especially since they have a kit for vw cars

what is even more exciting is the news vw will be doing dab as standard over in uk/europe

VW announces 2013 models will have DAB as standard
VW has confirmed that DAB digital radio will be fitted as standard across all models (except one, the VW UP!) from 2013. VW represents almost 10% of the in-vehicle market and this announcement keeps the UK on track to hit its target for the majority of new cars having digital radio as standard by the end of 2013.

now lets just hope that means we get the same

So is there anything further on pricing yet? I also not that it talks about RCD510 but not RNS510?

I'm still interested depending on what it ends up costing and how well it actually integrates.
