You could locate the trailer control unit and go from there. CAN wires start at the trailer ECU. (left side of boot / C pillar)
I am planning to retrofit rear a PCD with OPS in my 2011 Golf VI Variant.
For the installation of the control module, apart from ignition +12V and GND, I will need to access the Drivetrain CANBUS (NOT the Comfort CAN, as would be the case with the plain PDC without OPS).
Seeing how I have switched 12V and of GND readily available in the boot of my car (12V power point), would it be possible to get to the CAN without running the wire harness all the way to the CAN gateway? My car has a dealer fitted detachable trailer hitch, and I was hoping that might already require the Drive CAN to be branching into the rear end of the car.
Does anyone have any concrete knowledge of this? Or are there any other locations for tapping into the Drive CAN, that might be more convenient than right at the gateway?
Cheers, elosch

Thanks, I'll have a look then. I suppose it is best to keep the CAN bus wires as short as possible.
I'm also considering replacing the non-twisted CAN wires in the harness I bought, with some proper UTP cable, maybe taken from an Ethernet CAT5 or CAT6 cable. VAGs repair guidelines are pretty explicit about all CAN bus wires having to be twisted pair, presumably to prevent crosstalk, so I'd rather not mess things up with a dodgy mod, especially the drive train CAN
An fact I think I best research and maybe open a thread on that matter.
