If retrofit, I would remove the unit, and reseat the quadlock connector and test.

When you say a couple of firmware updates, what exactly did you do and what version did you start from? Did you have any issues with any of them?
    Hi Kamold,

The RNS was factory fitted, along with the Dynaudio set-up.

In terms of firmware update I don't know which version I started at. I do know the sound was not existent at this point.

I initially tried to upgrade to 4120, however that failed at 57% of the way through 2 times. I downloaded the SWL recovery which fixed it and enabled the secret menu. I interrogated the unit at that point and confirmed that the unit now had 4120 loaded. Given I was coming down from my state of panic at this stage I wasn’t paying attention to determine if the white noise was coming from my speakers.

I did some more reading and on the same day decided to upgrade to 5238 from the link on the firmware upgrade thread. It all went smoothly and then updated the maps to v8 and POI accordingly. I am pretty sure the buzzing was in the background from that point on but can’t reliably pinpoint when it came about.

Ok I think your coding may have been lost at some point. You need to get hold of someone with vcds and check that the rns is coded for Dynaudio amp.

    Great thanks Kamold.

If it is not, how do I get it recoded for the Dynaudio amp? Is it done though the VCDS?
I will PM some of the guys from the VCDS thread.

    Cheers!

Yes, coding is done with VCDS.
There are just a few bits to flip that change the outputs and control on the RNS from speaker level output to line level out, volume controlled via the CANbus.
There are a few different settings depending what car it is, and therefor exactly what amp it is.
Check Maverick's guide for the outline

    Cheers Kamold.

It's a MY10.5 R36 so will do some reading when I get home tonight. Thanks for the assistance.

    By way of an update....

Caught up with a forum member last night to utilise VCDS.

Re-coded for Dynaudio and while it improved the noise somewhat still has not eliminated it. He went away and did some research and suggested that there was still some wrong coding in that it is still configured for 4 channel sound system rather than set to active speakers. Does this make sense?

Given that it is running through an amp I assumed that 4 channel would have been the correct setting? But then again I am far from an aficionado.

Speaker monitoring should be inactive (sound system).
And speakers should be set to 0 (sound system active speakers)
So you had lost the coding?

Yes the coding had reset to a default I assume

Will try those settings tonight with another forum member who is closer to home.

Make sure you reboot the RNS after applying coding changes for them to take effect.

    To update....

Friday night we tried all the changes as mentioned in the previous posts. The issue is still there.

When doing a rest to the unit a message is coming up asking to insert a CD. It seems to me there is still some software missing for the Dynaudio as the message only comes up when we select the Dynaudio options in VCDS.

I guess my question is does the Dynaudio required additional software to that already installed on the DNS510?

Edit: Also when doing the autoscan in VCDS no errors are returned for 37 - Navigation Control Module but when I try to scan the module individually the shop# is blank and the coding and adaptation boxes are gray out and not available. Do I need to add a shop code to resolve this? Something like 12345-12345-12345
