    Rns 510 icons

Hi, I've tried to use my own icons, with the 34x39 and while the list show the new icon, it doesn't reflect on the map, how do I get the icons to show on the map. I've deleted everything and exported via poinspector but it still doesn't seem to work. I must be missing something but cant seem to figure it out, please help

custom POI's don't work and now lost default POI's also.

Hi guys, new to golf and the forum so will say thanks to aussietig for a great thread and for any of your help in advance.

Yesterday I successfully updated my RNS510 (verC) with f/w 421x and the v5 maps. All went well and had the default POI's for the drive to the office. After reading this thread I added aussietig's PersonalPOI.db3 with an SD card. Successfully achieved up to and including step 4 below, at step 5 the 'select map details' was greyed out.

To upload this file from SD card onto your RNS510:
    1. Create a new folder also called PersonalPOI on your SD card and save the PersonalPOI.db3 file into this subfolder.
    2. Insert your SD card into RNS510.
    3. Press 'Setup' button, then select 'Navigation' on the screen.
    4. Select 'My Points of Interest' and select 'Import' and wait for import confirmation.
    5. Now exit and press 'Map' on the screen whilst still within 'Setup', then select 'Select Map Details' on the screen.
    6. Scroll down to my 'PERSONAL' Folder and choose the custom POI of your choice to be permanently displayed map is on screen.

Any suggestions on why the 'Select Map Details' are unavailable? the import of the PersonalPOI's went off without a hitch.

There is a limit to how many Poi unit can accept.

Still trying to work out that magic number.

After loading my file, you might need to reboot your unit to force it recognise the new poi. So need you to confirm how many did you load.

Or try redownloading my file and try again.

I t can only accept a maximum of ten categories to display on the screen. You can load as many as you like (within your .db3 file) IIRC, but when you select which categories you want displayed on the map...then 10 is the magic number.

    +1 for resetting the unit.

Also...what is the size of your .db3 file Easter?

its 25.1 Mb, it is aussietig version as he published it in #21. Reset the unit, no change. I dont get any POI categories to select from. When i go to the extras menu in Nav the POI selection is greyed out...

25mb sounds too big - the one I use is only 13mb.

I'll upload it now and post a link shortly.

No not talking about how many unit can display!

There is a magic number of categories you can load and not kill the POI functionality.

Sorry Easter ... the 25MB was my latest experiment with 243 POI categories created and with all POIs refreshed up to Feb 2013.

Just forgot that this thread has a link to it.

I reverted back late last night (in my Google cloud) to previous version with 119 categories but unfortunately POIs are as at Nov 2012.

But hey ... still fcuking better than the 2 year old Sensis map it operates on!

Unfortunately you obviously downloaded the 25MB while I also thought it would work and was about to share with everyone.

Basically loading the monster 25MB greys out and kills the POI functionality. Not just ability to show 10 on your map, but even using it for navigation and searches.

Had this problem when originally experimented and creating the very first custom Australian POI db3 file for the V4.1 map.

Was kind of hoping by now, the problem had been overcome! How wrong I was after spending the whole weekend compiling and creating the file.

Anyhow it's back to the drawing board, but time I don't have again trying to figure out the magic (maximum) number of POI categories!

Okay fellas ... still don't know what is the magic number!

But chopped over 70 categories out and picked the ones with the most POI co-ordinates.

Final stats: 173 POI categories with nearly 73K individual co-ordinates and 18MB

POI on screen buttons are functional and not greyed out.

Will live with that and job finished!

For those interested, go back to post #21 to download the new PersonalPOI.db3 file.

Then reload (via SD Card) new file and the import process will overwrite the old and replace with new Personal POIs.
