Haven't seen anyone else mention it & don't want to state the obvious...not sure what firmware it might have been present since but at least on 4020 there is the option for another 9 pre-determined icons to be present on the map (10 personal & 9 VIP). It is terribly ardous to enter via the screen but for a reasonably low number of extra POIs, it might be useful.

Just need to enter in the address details of the POI then select Save. Then for VIP Status select an icon.

These are the pre-determined categories & icons to choose from. Under Setup, then Map, the box refering to showing VIP Icons needs to be selected.

The icons appear as above. Might not be new info but haven't seen anyone else mention it.

Also another thing, rather than trying to change CD versions when fiddling with POIs on the Map (not personal POIs), I format my Map partition. It takes 5 minutes, RNS510/Columbus no longer contains maps & I can quickly burn a fresh copy of 7679 without the hassle of number changes. I got the image file from VW Navi Forum listed as RNS-510 Maps HDD Format CD.

Glad I could contribute something useful

And it would seem that these VIP POIs are stored on the POI partition of the newer firmware. I've noticed that they are independant of the PersonalPOI file being installed or removed & if I format the map partition to reinstall maps, the VIP POIs remain.

Ordinarily, I use the VIP POIs as a way to upload my favourite destination/place to go.

The unit can accept about about 100 destination from memory.

I've been using this website to search (via a Google Map search) for my favourite spots or location before any new trip, saving them on a SD Card and uploading onto the unit:

VW Labs - Is this what the people want?

Highly recommend people use this free service before it's no more!

For some strange reason, they're shutting down the website after 14 June 2012.

    Bloody real shame!!!

That sucks. Whilst largely novelty in value, I have used it on trips to setup accomodation and waypoints with photos it was quite handy.

Makes it look to the naive passenger like the unit is internet connected - 'Oh wow! Its got a picture of it, has it got Google or something?!!!'

I actually just use their NavCompanion.

It's actually a great tool since it uses Google Map as the search engine.

Can just type in the name of the place that you're looking for, save it with your login account and sync it up to a SD card.

Have emailed as to why they're shutting it down! Waiting for a response.

Didn't your Tig used to be blue, or am I going mad?
