Oh - and I have tried the "Press Scan and RDM buttons for 2 seconds or more to display "SAFE" and mine doesn't do anything
Hi all,
First off I have searched extensively for an answer to this and I found one thread but the OP gave up and installed an aftermarket unit.
I just bought my daughter a 2003 Beetle Convertible with original radio and 6 CD stacker in the console. Battery had been flat for a long time so radio needs code.
My radio is different to the 2 illustrated in the owners manual. It has 3 preset buttons not 6.

I have the units serial number and the reset code but can't find how to reset it. Manual states that it should read "SAFE" on the display and then go to "1000" to input the code. Mine says "CODE 1" and when I try and enter the code it gets to the third number and fails and goes to "CODE 2" - then same process "CODE 3" and then it locks itself for an hour with "--- --- ---"
I haven't found a process that will work for me and I can't get the display to read "SAFE" so I'm hoping someone has had a similar experience or has had theirs reset by a dealer and can tell me the process.
Thanks in advance for any help

I'll try it tomorrow on mine.
Actually no I won't. I don't have the security code, and they're a mission to get hold of.
I'd hate to have caused someone else to be in the same situation so please don't try this at home!
I've also been told that the car stores the code but I think because the battery has been flat for so long it's lost the memory
No, the code is unique to the radio.
I'm pretty sure you just press the preset button that corresponds to each digit of the code. So if the code is 1234, those are the preset buttons you press.
And thats exactly what I'm doing. My code is 1334 - With CODE 1 displaying I press preset #1 then preset #3 then preset #3 again then preset #4 and the thing goes to CODE 2 (I repeat) then CODE 3 (three attempts) and then locks it out for an hour.

I'd try the test code 1111, and see what happens. If the radio works, then perhaps the code you have is wrong, and you'll need to chase it up with Go Technologies. If it doesn't work, then you'll need to look into another radio unit.
Thanks - the first link is the thread I referred to in my first post. Exactly the same problem but no resolution mentioned. I have read the second link before but I didn't try the 1111 so will do that.
