The car has to be locked to properly measure the current drain.
Hey Guys
Since installing my RCD510 and replacing the CANBUS, I am still experiencing power drain - This is not dramatic; however, after 1 week of not driving the car turns over a fair few times before it starts. After two weeks its totally dead. The battery is 6 months old, genuine VW.
I am trying to work out if the gateway that I received from Bold-Sport.com is the wrong one, when I read the post on my-gti.com about replacing the gateway, I am not sure how to take this sentence "The problem is the CAN bus Gateway is too old and an updated version 1k0907530 (1k0 907 530) of L revision or higher is required"
Does higher in this sense mean 'L - A' or 'L - Z'?
I was sent the following for my 2005 MKV GTI from Bold-Sport.com "we have sent a 7N0 907 530L, HW 1k0 907 951"
I have received and installed a 7N0 907 530 L
I have done some testing with a multimeter through the following steps.
1) Unlock the car and open the bonnet
2) Remove the negative cable from the battery
3) Connect the positive lead from the multimeter to the positive battery cable and connect the negative lead to the negative battery pole.
4) Check the AMP's being drawn from the battery - initially 2.05 then steady but continued at 1.60-1.75
5) Removed the 'Radio' Fuse (F19) and then the AMP draw dropped to 0.25amps and after 10 seconds to 0.03amps and stayed there.
This leads me to believe that there is incorrect coding of the CAN gateway that I replaced when I installed the RCD510. Would this test conclude this?
Thank you in advance

Hi Transporter
Thanks for your reply - how do I lock the car but keep the bonnet open? I have read that if the bonnet is open then the car will not go to sleep?
Should the new gateway that I have be compatible and could I have incorrectly coded the new gateway?
My battery died recently and I thought it was originally due to some kind of power drain so did similar measurements (but invested in a DC current clamp multimeter so I didn't have to unclip the battery lead and potentially impact the device draining).
The car can be locked with the bonnet up no problems.
For the mk6, you definitely need to wait a bit of time after a drive until everything shuts off, as there are pumps etc running for a while after locking the car (5mins?)
