Hi,
I have an aftermarket stereo unit for my VW Golf R32. It has been going good until this morning I got this error "application platform.exe encountered a serious error and must shut down". I can't do anything anymore. The radio itself is still playing the last selected radio station from yesterday but thats about it.
Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
I've attached a photo of my unit.
Thank you so much for your time!!
I forgot to mention that I've had this pop up before (once every couple of months). Usually i'd just turn it off and then on and it would disappear.
Last night my car battery nearly died (car could not start by itself, once I turned it on, the car needed revving to charge it back up). I think this may have caused the error.

Hey queenina,
Have you changed the Canbus? Have you checked to see if there is any loose connections at the back of the unit?

Is this chinesse rns? One of my friend has same issue. Fix was: new canbus and upgrade firmware. I know all this done by vw specialist.
Good luck.

I got mine (original) from poland. Upgrade firmware done by vw service. For yours i really do not know since is not original. Wrong firmware can damage whole unit. So, better check model no before do anything. Regards

This is not an RNS510. It is a Chinese clone, running a Windows CE platform. Firmware developed by Continental and VW will not do anything positive to this unit, more than likely, will damage it.
You need to find out/recall what generation WinCE platform the system was/is using and (maybe) reload that firmware.
GPSUnderground.com could be a source, or speak to the previous owner of the vehicle (if you know who it was).
Finally, if all else fails, could be time to upgrade to a more serious touch screen GPS Headunit (Viz, Alpine, Pioneer or VW OEM - RNS510).

Have you tried disconnecting the battery ? Or if that is too technical, maybe locate the correct fuse and pull that.
After a few minutes reconnect, this may force it to reboot and be all good again.
