Changing ipod in to Aux in - RCD500

Hi Guys,

I have an odd one. On my recently acquired 07 Gti, I have what appears to be an RCD500 unit fitted, though the manual suggests it should be a 300, so I'm assuming a previous owner upgraded, or the manual is wrong.
Anyway...

It has the ipod cable fitted in the glovebox, but I don't use apple devices. I would like to instead have an Aux input (3.5mm) so that I could at least play from my android phone/tablet. Ideally I would like a usb input.

Is it possible, and easy, to switch over from ipod input to Aux input? What cables/converters will I need?
Is there a usb input available? I can't seem to find anything suitable in my searching.

I'm currently looking at this as an option for the Aux in:

Does this have the CD input needed though? It is already a 6 stack in the dash?

Bump. Has anyone actually changed an ipod to a usb plug on an RCD500? Or am I dreaming? Thanks!

So I ended up buying one of these to try:

It sort of works - if I hook my wifes ipad into the connector on my RCD500 and switch to aux input, it recognises the device and will accept the input. However if I use my android pad (it's a nexus 7) with the adapter above, it will not recognise the input. But if I start with the ipad connected, then remove it and connect the nexus, it remains connected (for a while at least).

Anyone know how to get it to recognize my nexus every time I plug it in?

Also - there is no power coming over the ipod plug from the HU (to either ipad or nexus). Is this a fault, or normal?
