CANBUS Gateway query

G'day everyone,

Got a bit of a curly/newbie question.

I've got a Jetta which needs to have a new gateway upgrade to run the 3rd generation headunits e.g. RCD510, RNS510.
I know that if I get a new gateway off the net it'll need to be reprogramed via Vagcom.

Here's the thing I wanted to clarify, if I got a working one from a wrecked MY08 Jetta which has the upgraded gateway, after plugging it in, do I still need to reprogram it?

Yes you will.

You need to make sure the gateway has the same settings as the one in the car or some features and funtions may no longer work on your car.
