You can, and it has been discussed in here as POI information. It is not a particularly simple process though, and even once it is done, the speed / red light cameras only show up as icons on the map, you don't get audible / visual warnings.
Appreciate if anyone knows if this can be done and if so, where I can find the information. Am expecting my new GTi in the next 2 weeks and am trying to decide if I should get the RNS 510 or an after market navigation in -dash unit.
Thanks

Thanks Swallowtail - based upon what I've researched throughout the day, I think I'll stick with the VW unit rather than an aftermarket (Pioneer/Eclipse/Kenwood etc). I noted your advice in another thread about imminent arrival of Version 3 maps so have asked my dealer for a free upgrade (should Version 2 get installed by the dealership over the next week or so). No response as yet.
One other question if I may - could I still go ahead and upgrade speakers and possibly add an amplifier while still keeping the VW SatNav unit?
Many thanks
Yes... I am running an arc audio ks125.4 mini amp in mine with Alpine reference splits. Works fine with the RNS510. Dependent on installer / setup they may recommend a line level conditioner - I have a 6 channel device in between the RNS and the arc audio amp. The RNS can output either high level outputs (for if there is no external amp) or line level if there is - it is just a coding change in the vehicle.
Thanks - that's what Ill do.
Checked out Arc Audio website but looks like the only dealer in Australia is in QLD. Looks like a pretty esoteric brand - are you happy with the amp/speaker combination?
It's brilliant... fantastic given it's only physically a small amp.
FHRX Studios sell them in Sydney, but if you're keen, your timing couldn't be better - there's one for sale on the MkV Forum
Cheers for the bump, I've also got it for sale on vwwatercooled.
dendypopzarlis they certainly work well with the RNS510 and are pretty compact.
Also recommend it over aftermarket units, which are mostly hit and miss (with not many hits).
Thanks again everyone for the info...
Ended up speaking to someone at Fhrx Studios who was really helpful.
As I can see this post morphing away from subject matter so have posted a new subject on possible speaker/amp and installer recommendations.
