My experience was similar installing mine into the GT pretty straight forward - just be patient with delicate trim pieces. MDI + 729B Skoda Bluetooth are waiting to be installed on mine also.
Six torx screws in and out and 15 mins later unit installed! easiest and quickest installation I have ever done. radio does not work at moment as I need an antenna adapter which I have ordered off a seller on eBay for $12 inclusive of postage from Poland where the oem part (Fakra) dealer here wants $50! Will report back on this issue in due course.
Cd shuttle and SD card media work well and all controls on steering wheel and display in the instrument cluster work perfectly as I feared I would have had the visit the local dealer for recoding which thankfully is not the case $350 so far and well spent in my opinion compared to what I had installed previously

Fakra part I think is made in Poland along with the std alloys that we're fitted to the car!

Good to hear rpstry I gave the BT & MDI the flick and opted for an OEM RVC which has in my opinion made better use of the radio's graphic screen capability. I hardly use the cd shuttle and have copied all my music onto a number of SD cards and use it in the same manner as an iPod with no problems I have a Garmin gps that has Bluetooth and an inbuilt fm transmitter that takes care of the hands free issue
