    Hello all,

I just received a 9W7 Bluetooth unit (7P6 035 730L) and am looking for some direction as to how to install the unit in the factory position of under the passenger seat. The car is a MY2010 Passat CC, if that makes any difference.

I have removed the RNS-510 as well as the Climatronic controls but there is a small black box doodad (not sure what exactly, but I suspect something to do with adaptive cruise control as there is a sticker with ACC-something on it) already installed behind the climate controls. Unfortunately, that means the Bluetooth unit doesn't fit in the spot that all the guides point to. Just wiring up the harness to the RNS-510 while out of the dash shows the unit works as would be expected without VCDS coding being done yet.

Looking around on the Internet, I've only managed to find guides showing how to do a clean/retrofit install behind the Climatronic unit or to do an upgrade from an earlier under-seat factory fitted version, but no new installations under the seat.

The bit I'm most unsure about is how to route the wiring from the RNS-510 to the seat, and am a bit leery of randomly removing bits of trim in a new car to find out myself.

Thanks in advance for any assistance received.

    Collection of guides here:

The MK6 camera install guide shows a few pics with trim removed, but it's a simple yank to get most stuff off.
Or if you're still apprehensive you could cheat and run the cable under the floor mat

Thank you, Ryan. The Golf RVC install guide seems to show the area in question and it doesn't look that hard. Might have a go tomorrow.

Upgraded from 5K0... to the latest 7P60...L module to resolve some minor niggles with my new Galaxy S3 4G. Sad to say the voice control lady has changed from 'German' to 'German Prison Warden'

BlueTooth related questions (all BT questions go in this thread only)

    Howdy.

Does anyone know how to, or if its possible, to get the phone menu button to work on the RNS510? I had the dealer fit a Bluetooth for me (they put in a VW one, but I'm not sure what version). I can use the phone button on the steering wheel to answer and end calls. The phone menu button just mutes the radio.

    Cheers.

Dealer has fitted a basic 9w2 unit. I don't think VWA sell the 9w7 units as a retro fit aftermarket option as they often have compatibilty issues as the radio is often older than the BT unit and the OS cannot read/support the latest BT protocol which results in garbled phone book names and numbers on your rns display

been reading through the thread and the rosstech guide (very helpful), thought I might just go ahead and ask in case someone knows it off the top of their head. I have the rcd500 but am sourcing a RCD510 as an upgrade. I have the parrot, ego bluetooth already in. What's the best bluetooth I can fit that will work with the older red mfd?

The newer units work in Red MFD cars, they just don't show up on the screen or work with the steering wheel. They just work on the headunit.

    Question.

My '09 R36 has a 9W2 bluetooth module installed (I'm assuming behind the headunit, as it was dealer installed).

Now, I'm looking at upgrading to a 9W7 bluetooth module since I want the extra functionality.

Now, is it just a straight module swap and VCDS update, or do I have to run another microphone lead/additional cables? Some of the initial thread posts were a bit ambiguous.

The plug on the unit will be the same, so you should be able to do a straight swap of the black boxes (if it is indeed a 9W2 and not some parrot jobby). But you may need to do some VCDS coding on the new 9W7.

Apparently the 9W2 has A2DP, it's the 9W3 that doesn't. This is important because the 9W3 was mono so if you swap a 9W3 for a 9W7 you'll only get sound out of the right speakers w/o running some new cable.
