OK, I have just received my new bluetooth kit... as I already knew, the harness and cabling is only setup for mono sound from the bluetooth to the stereo. Not a problem for phone conversations obviously, but as the kit supports A2DP, it would be kinda nice to be able to have that in stereo.
The plug on the bluetooth kit is like this:
From left to right, that is:
Power +ve and -ve red and black, audio out (blue and green), microphone in (clear and open), and CANBUS (orange and brown).
Those are connected to the RNS510 wiring harness - power and canbus are spliced into the respective lines, and the audio goes into Pins 6 and 12 on the RNS510's plug 3 (see http://www.my-gti.com/529/volkswagen...in-assignments) - i.e. connected to Telephone audio input signal right, negative and positive. At the moment the mic cable goes off to the mic, but I will rewire that to the RNS510's Mic Out pins (and the Mic itself will be wired into the RNS510's Mic In, to give voice control).
The RNS510 can accept stereo telephone in, but I need to know which pins are Telephone out Left on the bluetooth unit.
Anyone have any ideas?

Now this from a 2007 version. Only problem is that is back when they were mono output only... so doesn't help much with the stereo A2DP output option:
1 V+
2 V-
3 Telephone ON
8 Audio LF Signal out +
9 Audio LF Signal Out -
10 Screening Term 31
11 Mic in +
12 Mic in -
15 K Line
16 Mute
17 CAN Hi
18 Can Lo
37 Switched positive term for phone charging
39 Term 31 -ve
41 Interface to mob phone Term 30
42 Mic Out +
43 Mic out -
44 Screening Term 31
45 Audio LF Sig input +
46 Audio LF Sig Input -
47 Wakeup lead to phone bracket
49 Serial Tx comms with tele bracket +ve
50 Serial Tx comms with tele bracket -ve
51 Serial Rx comms with tele bracket +ve
52 Serial Rx comms with tele bracket -ve
Hmm... this is interesting:

Would seem to indicate that maybe it can't do A2DP at all... yet all the ads for the D version on eBay say it does.
Well, no-one appears to ever have got it working with A2DP. General consensus on VWNavi is that NONE of the 729s support A2DP. Anyone out there with a "D" spec unit that has?
All the D sellers on eBay say it does A2DP... seems strange.
non compliant CAN bus cable!!!!!!!!
You can't have more than 50mm of untwisted cable.

I don't think I know of anyone with a Rev 'D' unit..
It's nice to get everything working but I personally think A2DP is a gimmic, doesn't sound that good and just wastes your phone battery. Do you really need it if you already got the MDI, sd card & HDD?
That could be something to look out for on ebay, perhaps they aren't as good as Stu's kits.
But it's something cool to show off
Depends on the price you pay, replacing the CAN bus cable isn't all that expensive but 99% of people I'm sure put them in like that and suffer from obscure problems. That could be something to look out for on ebay, perhaps they aren't as good as Stu's kits.
I guess as long as you know to twist the cables but most audio shops wouldn't be aware of that i'd say.
I have had an email from Chris at carsystems.pl, he's going to investigate A2DP this next week and get back to me. I may notify him about the CAN bus cable requirement too.
I agree A2DP is not a huge issue, not for me anyway, but some people like using it, and if it can or can't be done it would be good to have a definitive answer.
I'll pull those cables out of the loom and twist them.
