Bluetooth audio and steering wheel controls

I have an MY12 VW Golf 90TSi with the standard RCD310 stereo and bluetooth. I have searched on bluetooth in this forum and my problem does not seem to appear.

My Samsung Galaxy SII (and my wife's LG) pairs to the phone functions without issues. I can make and receive phone calls. I have the contact list in the MFD. All is good.

When it comes to audio, I can use the music player on my phone (either the standard Android one or MixZing) and the audio is played correctly. The problem is, I can't control the player using the steering wheel controls. I have to use the ones on the phone, which kind of defeats the point of bluetooth audio.

Only the volume up/down controls work (on the amp, not the phone). The track buttons, folder buttons, and play/pause buttons do not work.

On our Toyota Camry at work, I can at least get previous/next track and play/pause, so I know it's not the phone.

Anyone know if this can be enabled, or is it just the way it is?

The older Bluetooth modules didn't support this, but the latest revision does.

If this one feature is worth the $$$ to you, you can purchase the newer module and simply swap them around (will have to repair your phones, etc).

Not 100% sure which version is needed, my version is so old it doesn't even stream BT Audio (not that I need to since all my phone's music is also on the RNS510 30GB HDD and/or on a USB stick I can insert into the MDI).
See this is the thing. On an MY12 with the factory BT module, I'd have expected it to be the latest revision. Something to raise at the first service perhaps?

You could try, but when they build the cars they'll use whatever module they have. Keep in mind this latest version is *very* new, as far as other forum members here go only one or two people have mentioned they have that feature. Have a read through the last few pages in this thread for that discussion: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...-31461-45.html

MY12 on the other hand means any car built from the second half of 2011, so the new BT unit could've come out ~6 months after the first MY12 cars were available. Most owners would never know - not everyone compares notes on Internet forums.
