Run the battery cable straight to the starter motor.

Do not try and run the starter motor through any sort of distribution block.

Re-connect all the cable that were connected to the positive battery post to the starter motor.

Yes, earth the battery to the chassis in the boot, The easiest way to do the cable is just to buy a ready made battery cable from SuperCheap.

In the engine bay you probably only need one thick earth cable from the mounting bolt of the starter motor to the chassis. The block is on the other end of this bolt remember.

The body of your alternator should already be connected to earth, either through the mounts or through a short cable to the block. It's probably brown insulated cable or a copper braid. You should check this connection and if you just want to make sure run an earth back to the chassis earth connection where you bolted up the other cable. The earth cable for the alternator should be at least as big as the positive wire going to the alternator.

The rest of the electrical system will be fine with it's existing earthing.

Pete would this be the same principle for the vr6?

I am also vey interested in this mod and would consider doing it, my other option is to buy a new battery but not remove it to the boot keep it in the same spot as this one is alot smaller and something like 20kg lighter!

Should be the same for all cars I believe.

Finished the relocation Saturday afternoon after starting on a Friday. Not hard but VERY fiddly! Kept changing the set-up and missing hardware/material so it took overly long. It looks awesome held down on the false floor all exposed (it's a sealed battery) though I just found out that I needed an enclosure for it for rego anyway (whoops!).

So I basically had a 2G cable going from positive post to starter, then a 4G from the starter to the alternator. Another 4G was routed from the starter to a distribution block (all positive connections from the starter was from the same mounting bolt). From that were 8G cables connected to two other cables that was originally on the positive post when the battery was at the front (I'm assuming one of them was the fusebox, don't know what the other one was). From the negative post, a 2G cable was connected to the chassis and is less than a foot long. A ground was hooked up from the starter (using a different mounting bolt) to the chassis with a 4G - ran out of 2G, but I'll be replacing that soon. Car started first time Though the battery is flat now.

Car runs well but sounds weird, will clarify on this later.

Ray, lovely to hear your progress! Where did you place your battery then? Cause I remember it not fitting in the original place.

Ended up placing it near the rear seat, driver's side. Would have preferred to put it on the passenger side for weight distribution purposes though.
