Has anyone without bluetooth installed one of these? My car's a 2010 without bluetooth installed (although I do have an RNS-510) and don't have a phone menu enabled in the MFD. I wonder if this needs to be explicitly enabled in VCDS in order for the Autopolar to take over the phone menu and display its data? Or does it enable the option by itself? Or is the option not relevant at all?

I'm also wondering if there are any undesirable side-effects of enabling that menu for the Autopolar when bluetooth isn't installed. Such as when the Autopolar is turned off, for example.

Good news, it's installed and working.
Bad news, I'm struggling to get the wiper motor back in.
Silver lining, at least I'm getting a tan out here.

it adds itself to the MDF menus automatically. silly question, but did you perform the latest firmware update for it?

generally, that will fix all issues.

AFAIK it uses 47 telemetriks (or something) not 45 which is phone and the BT unit uses.

That's for the older Red Dot cars. White dot it emulates the Telephone (and then communicates with the BT module itself)

It's meant to add Telephone to the CAN Gateway automatically, but it's still a little buggy. Like zei said make sure it's on the latest white firmware or if you have a VCDS handy tick 77 - telephone on the install list of your CAN gateway

The first time I had that out it was a complete bitch to get back in... the second time it was much easier

Had an extra pair of hands help get it in, then everything else was a challenge to reinstall. Was very hard to get the rain tray back in on the passenger side. While I was busy addressing the driver side I didn't realise he'd grabbed a rubber mallet and I now need to find a new windscreen

    Seriously!?!?! WTF?

One idea, many insurance policies give you one free windscreen per year... Something worth considering.

It was an option I regretfully didn't tick when getting RACV. O'Brien quotes $698 and I'm waiting for RACV Auto Glass to call me back tomorrow for a quote.

Made a new thread for windscreen prices after getting more quotes:
    MK6 Golf Windscreen quotes

Quite an expensive Polar FIS unit in my case, let's hope it delivers in spades
