    Assistance with RNS-510 Installation

    Hi All,

I have recently purchased a 2007 VW Golf R32 and am planing to install the below equipment, I was hoping to get assistance and/or opinions if possible. This is my first post on the forum so apologies if I muck it up.

I appreciate this topic has been talked about extensively across the web. I've done quite a bit of research but was hoping to get answers on some specific questions.

    Equipment I'm planing to install:

The questions I had are below:

    1. Has anyone bought from Car-Systems before?
    2. Is it possible to cheaply purchase (or download) the VW Australian maps?
    3. I am aware that the 7p6 will work with a red MFD, but that the phone information will not appear on on the MFD, only the RNS510. However, will I be able to answer the call with the button on the RNS510? Has anyone else installed the 7p6 in their Golf?
    4. I am hoping to replace the CD Stacker with the MDI kit so it's under the arm rest rather than the glove box. Has anyone given this a go before? Has it worked?
    5. Is it difficult to install the Rear Emblem Camera if my VW has not previously had this function?
    6. Does anyone know a good person to install the gear. I have read on forums that Derek @ European Autotech in Mona Vale is pretty good. Any other recommendations? I am in Sydney.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    All the best,
    Pete

The only one I can help with is purchasing from Carsystems - easy to deal with and shipping is fast (4 days Poland to Aus). Haven't had to return anything so don't know what they are like on that side of it.
The MDI kit pictured there is designed to fit into the CD CHanger mount points, so should be doable.

I'll answer a few questions that I can:
    2. Yes
    3. Yes
    5. There is a good guide on my-gti. Very do-able but its an involved job. I installed a rear licence plate RVC in my wife's MkV. Was a relatively straight forward job but by myself took maybe 4-5 hours all up. The emblem install might be another 2 hours, but I'm not an expert.
    6. Derek is definately very good to deal with.

Thanks mate, I have reviewed the camera guide on my-git (and another detailed one on myturbodiesel) and agree it's not a plug&play exercise. I am intending on getting a professional installation but wanted to make sure I wasn't asking of too much for some poor technician.

Thanks for the info on the Bluetooth (it's the main part I'm concerned with). Do you know if I'd lose the functionality on my multi-function steering wheel (I assume I might given the Bluetooth doesn't integrate with the red MFD).

I don't know specifically with that model bluetooth module (steering wheel), but my guess would be yes. The cheap aftermarket head unit I have works fine with the steering wheel (phone answer, volume up/down/mute).

Just incase that you will not find the canbus in the location that many guides on web refer to and before you start removing the viper motor to access it from the top , have a look in this post. It takes 5 minutes to get it out, if you can use your hand welll in the small places. You have to remove the connector with one hand only.
